Hull (a) Post Match Thread

I thought it was quite positive, but then again I was in the match thread! Haha.
Don't know what happens to those posters, had we dropped points this thread would already be at 70+ pages but when we win they
don't
have
a
fucking
word
to
say.

There were too many folk on the Matchday thread eager to stick the boot in and say how shit we were, but they are completely wrong. I've seen us play shit, and that was nothing like it. We managed the game well today without giving them too many chances. We softened them up until they had nothing left and comfortably beat them with a clean sheet to boot.

Are you asking me to tell you who we should have signed from the Premier League?

What I'm getting at is this...

Yaya and Silva aren't quite the forces they were. And Nasri has gone. Between those 3 we managed to have a great handle on games because each player kept the flow of our game going. Nasri and Silva in particular were great without actually scoring a goal or setting up a goal. They wanted to always be on the ball and it resulted in us looking much more threatening as a team in general. We got good overlapping width and we also looked much calmer at the back because we had more control.

Sometimes our games tend to resemble basketball at times. We are racking up ridiculous possession stats yet looking all at sea when we are attacked by anyone with quality...and I personally think that's because we have good but wildly inconsistent defenders, great but wildly inconsistent match winners and not enough midfield metronomes - I know Gundogan was brought in to help with that but even before his injury, he was up and down. I think we notice Dinho for his interceptions, energy and tackling, and De Bruyne for his assists or goals, but I think we are missing someone who knits everything together.

Not a knock, just an observation.
No I'm asking which players control a game for 90 minutes?

Once you answer that I'll know more about the sort of player that you mean as without that knowledge I'd still think Dinho, Silva and KDB are those sorts of players.

We have had a game plan in the last three matches that has worked very well. We haven't been stronger as we went on by mistake (in my opinion), we have hogged possession early doors and knackered the opposition mentally and physically.

Three wins from three. One conceded and seven scored. I don't think it's been by luck but entirely by design, Pep is learning the league or at least he is learning how to use these players to win games. As has been mentioned, 1/3rd of Chelsea's wins in their current run have been 1-0 and far less convincing than today.

There were wankers on here (not you) after Leicester saying we'd have more defeats by new year than at any point since pre takeover.

Chuffed with the 3 points.

But Otamendi, I dunno if it's acceptable how he slided recovered the ball and put a precise pass for Blondie to Merlin to Iheanacho to the net, City two nil.

Yes it is, as he was in the right back position with loads of cover & won the ball, as opposed to missing the ball completely in the centre, with no cover & leaving us in the shit.

Decisions.

what gets on my tits was the commentary said you have to be complimentary for the way hull played, they didn't play ,we played kept our rhythm passed and moved them all over the pitch first half ,they had a go in the first 10 mins of the 2nd half but once we took control again we saw them off. Brilliant all round display.

It's clumsiness rather than dirtiness. Otamendi seems to me a very clumsy player, and Kolarov too, at times. There was a point in that match where we were giving away needless free kick after needless free kick, and I though, fuck it, one of these is going to go in any minute now. We're not actually a very savvy team at fouling deliberately to break down opposition momentum in low-risk areas of the midfield. And since NDJ and Barry, we haven't been, in my opinion.

There were a couple of Hull players the ugly guy upfront and Snodgrass who drew an awful lot of fouls...

Second half was good and largely set up by our first half, which people perceive as poor, but where we made Hull do a lot of running. They only had the energy to attack us for about 15 mins of that game.
This. It seems the general consensus is that if we're not playing good then we must be playing poor. It wasn't good on the eyes but we certainly held our own. A tad more faith blues x

Good game today, limited Hull to very little chances, clean sheet and 3 more points to keep the pressure on. Happy days

Is Yaya Touré still in with a shout of being the greatest City player of all time?

I love Silva, but...

My lad summed it up. We have the ability to make some very good sides, look average.
But we also have the ability to make some poor sides look world beaters, at times.

It's a strange one.

Imo we are doing the hardest part. We work hard, get on the ball, we force tho oppo back into their own goalmouth, then just fuck about. Just step in & shoot ffs. Just attempting it will open things up.

We have played better and lost, but happy enough with the overall performance and more so with 3 points and a clean sheet.
We controlled most of the game and Hull didnt really have many chances, Sagna made a great decision to get back on the line and clear the header.
Yaya looks like the player he used to be and KDB looks much better when in the middle.
Happy days again lads and lasses
