Are we Simply Unfit?

Plenty fit enough, just lacking the right mental approach to wanting to do the hard yards for 90 mins.

We have too many players who aren't physically capable of producing energetic performances with the regularity the Premier League and Champions League demands, it's that simple.

Zabaleta, Sagna, Clichy, Kolarov, Kompany (when fit), Yaya, Silva and Nolito are all too old to be playing so many games in quick succession. Then you have players like Fernandinho, De Bruyne and Aguero who are truly world class but have to produce an extra 10/20% mentally as well as physically every single game because the players around them aren't capable of covering the distances to support them quickly enough on a consistent basis.

If we had a winter break in this country it wouldn't be such an issue but until that changes we need some younger, fitter, more energetic players in the team/squad.

Let's also understand we played dross at the start of this season so it was easy for us

It wasn't the drubbing that a few expected, but I can't remember the Dippers being so open to a defeat and we just didn't have the wherewithal to concoct a moment where I thought we would turn them over. Our top-scoring striker didn't have one touch inside the Dipper area, and if we continue to concede in the manner we do then it will need something more substantial than a slight improvement on the scoreline. We shall see how things pan out in the return but I can't think that the Dippers will be as vulnerable again as they were yesterday.

If all works out well we with Gabriel Jesus we will have the extra fire power bit of fire power needed in the return fixture. Providing we cut out the individual errors (yep that will be very difficult this season) we still have a better chance in the fixtures against our rivals. Barring Coutinho and perhaps Matip that was their strongest line up they can put out and despite us looking very limited as an attacking force we did defend better throughout the game.

When you have many 30 years olds in your starting 11, there's only so much you can get from them in years of intensity as they ate humans and not machines. What pisses me off is the vast amounts we've spent on 1) center back and we're still in the 'hopeful' phase of having that department sorted, 2) DM where we have a reliable player but will only give as much as his body enables him to, 3) wide areas: we still lack five star quality here.

Are we even hopeful that the centre back department is sorted?

I'd say the concern here is about changing the style of play and how this is being managed. Players were running through hoops until Celtic / spurs games and prior to that game I believe players were too scared to lose. Now they know nothing happens as a consequence of their crab like and pedestrian game.

We won the league and the element within the club who felt threatened by Mancini and his more direct relationship with the Sheik, acted.
He rightly pointed to making less signings, but off the highest quality. He was right.

God it really pains me that we that we missed our chance of domination by doing the dirty on Mancini
