I think the 16 out of 26 stat says it all really - what else are the media supposed to do? This isn't a witch hunt as you could not get clearer evidence than that presented by the data: we essentially have a non-keeper playing in nets for us - he's learned all the trainable things like kicking and catching but everything else that needs to be instinctive he doesn't have and he must have had some defence in front him at the other clubs he played for. As Gary Neville, Paul Power and Phil Neal will attest - you can pick up medals by the ton merely by being in the right team at the right time - Bravo's luck has run out and its written all over his face and body language. In the Premier League Bravo has conceded 27 goals from 64 shots on target (42%). However since the Chelsea game, he has conceded 16 goals from 26 shots on target (62%). The media and social media witch hunt surrounding him has been ridiculous. If anyone in any walk of life was constantly told that they were shit at their job, then over time I’m sure it would affect their performance.
The question now is how bad does he have to actually be before Pep says enough is enough - personally I think the answer is 'costing us a trophy' bad and I'd include 'any chance of the Premier League this season' in that assessment. Its hard to know what this says about Pep at the moment but I for one am not impressed with his persistence with Bravo - it is literally defying the odds as we can all see/read for ourselves. Interestingly over the road Fergie did the very same thing with two of his 'favourite' players as I recall: Ralph Milne and Jim Leighton - in both cases stubborness did not pay off and my red mates knew the score almost from day one: in the end Jim Leighton had to be dropped for Les Sealey in order to seal an FA Cup for United and on such small matters do fortunes hinge.
Here is the rub. The best way of finding out if a player is any good is to try and sell him. let's imagine Liverpool come in for Joe Hart and we offer them Bravo instead - do you think Klopp would take him even on a free? - do you think any other Premier manager would take Bravo (especially if Joe Hart was on offer). The key question for Pep is to ask him which keeper the market would buy?
We all know the answer to this question - even Pep.
I don't think things will get better on this score so its just a question now of what price we are going to end up paying.
I hope Willy shows what he can do in the FA Cup.
