I have thought this all along - bit of a flaw both sides of the pond amongst Trumpeteers and the Leavers in Brexit. There is a sizeable minority in both groups who are just anti foreigner and don't want anybody but what they perceive as their own nationals living and working in their country. What they don't seem to grasp is the jobs that immigrant do they get because the indigenous people won't work fr that kind of money. Furthermore things won't stay the same as nobody can take work at those rates of pay and live the indigenous lifestyle that they rightly expect. So as you say they face price hikes and an economy taking steps to control the accompanying inflation or clean their own pools and mow their own lawns. Simple fact would be say a BMW X5 made in Mexico sells for say $50k or the equivalent. If it stays there Trump slaps a 35% tariff on the import. However if BMW make it in the US at US labour rates its probably $50k + 35% anyway to retail. How's that benefit anyone in the long run?

why should anyone work for some of the wages being offered ???? . indigenous people - of course they aren't going to work for such low wages, you can barely live on it. when theres 12 people in a house all sharing costs, thats its achievable. there a plenty of british people who work for barely anything and will do those jobs, but there comes a point where most can't. employers are purposely lowering wages to cut costs. if wages go up to actually living standards, then surely thats good.

indigenous lifestyle ?? you do know plenty of british born people are really struggling at the minute, living in crap lifestyles and barely earning enough to pay the bills........... you make it out british people wont work hard and live in luxury.

I'm confident Teresa will set him right on Friday on issues such as climate change, the importance of NATO,free trade and the dangers of protectionism, the risks of US foreign policy on Russia and Iran whilst robustly defending the position of the UK in future trade talks (in two years time - don't yawn Don) that we will not agree to unacceptable US conditions.

Far from it mate. I am one of those indigenous people who considers themselves underpaid as is my wife. Thing is I couldn't afford to jack in what I do for 6 months fruit picking and carrot pulling in bits and bats throughout the year and filling in the gaps with the odd bit of work in between. All at about £7.50 an hour some cash in hand. However there are carrots and apples in the supermarkets when I go shopping. So somebody is doing it and when the Poles and Latvians are stopped from coming in to do it people like me can do it but demand more money or there will be no carrots.

He doesn't give a fuck - so long as HE is orange enough to be seen from space he is happy !
I have demanded to see his birth cerificate because his father was really an oranguatan and as everyone knows, this disqualifies him from being the president.

Oh I hope so Pam coz that sort of evolution would really fuck with Mike "the creationist" Pence's head

Do I agree with him? Maybe, until there is a paper published with the hard figures of illegal voters it's impossible to say. However voter fraud does happen and illegals do vote and if you think they are voting for Republicans you are wrong.

In RIDICULOUSLY LOW numbers that it doesn't even register. Numerous studies, both government and private, show this.

But the popular vote isn't relevant, both candidates knew the rules heading in. If Trump had to win the popular vote he would have campaigned in New York and San Francisco instead of in the swing states.

It IS relevant, just not to the outcome of the Presidential election. The relevance is that it SHOULD illustrate to any President that they do not have any mandate for sweeping change, as the MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION AFFECTRD BY SUCH CHANGES were not in favor of them.

One of the things that is ignored is that the American election system is absolutely NOT democratic and is completely biased in favor of Republicans, because vast, open, very low density population states have a disproportionate share of Electoral College votes. One might state, "but that's what the Constitution says," but it absolutely isnt! When the Constitution was written, there was no California or even anything even considered the western United States. The idea of a Senate, to "flatten out" the effects of population in Congress was simply carried over to the Electoral College, thus distorting any notion of "American democracy" which is amusing considering Americans like to highlight themselves as the shining light of democracy that the world should learn from.

Then again, American democracy is, at best, a quaint notion, as it has never really existed. From the outset, voting, and thus power, was in the hands of the wealthy white man. Women had no vote, and blacks (the only significant minority) were chattel, valued at 3/5 of a person for tax purposes! Even today, the Voting Rights Act is under pressure from Republicans who want to force the indigent and poor, and old and infirm, to have a government issued ID card that has to be shown at the polls to vote. Republicans want more regulations on voting than owning a gun!!

Reminds me of Liverpool fans a few years ago saying 'if we didn't hit the post 17 times this season and instead had scored we would have won the league'. So what?

Err, no, it really shouldn't, and not everything can be wrapped up neatly in a football metaphor.

In my best Michael Caine voice...Not many people know this, but.... the last TWO Republican Presidents were elected by a MINORITY of the American population. Had that not been the case, and had democracy actually prevailed, since Reagan/Bush we would have gone Clinton, Gore, Obama, Clinton for the past quarter century!!!

there are plenty of british people including myself working/worked on less then 7.30 an hour. how did we cope then before they came here ? i think most people would do it on mimmim wage. the majority of people where i worked were british, did 12 hour shifts on 7.30 an hour. the romanians and lithuanians comig into do the food picking are paid barely anything, so tbh i hope thats stopped and people get paid an actual living wage.

before even 2004 ( polish influx) i know people that did strawberry picking in the summer as students. there are plenty of british people willing to do that type of work.

i was a student last year been in out of work since... most 20 year olds dont rent or live in their own house or have families. most including me using my student grant for holidays. plenty of students do work on 7 quid an hour in summer jobs, so its not that hard to try and get them to do fruit picking. as they did not even ten years ago.

ok so question - where do you see yourself in 10 years time - no more student finance - still seasonal fruit and veg picking and pulling? Well if it pays £25k a year maybe. If not and there are no seasonal immigrants who pulls the carrots? OR.... you can be slave labour and sofa surf as a penniless worker until you retire on the old age pension - if there still is one - aged about 70 and with no family no kids no wife to look back on.

where do i see myself ?? hahaha. of course students aren't gonna want to do that as a full time job when there 30. the key is that there will always be new students starting every year....... they could easily offer temp contracts to students for the summer and then recruit new students the year after and so on......... its not as if we are gonna run out of them. if there are no seasonal workers whatsoever in the whole country the obviously we can look at bringing people in, but right now there are plenty of british people such as students who can do it.....

Ahh - the innocence of youth. There are plenty who can but will they? Time will tell but the farmers who relay on cheap labour don't share your confidence.
