The US President has quite extensive powers, related to defence and security, that he can use without House approval. eg he can start a nuclear war.

But one of the exec orders was to repeal Obamacare? So I don't get it this guy seems to have ultimate power to do what the hell he wants.

Inflation is very good at reducing housing debt in real terms.
Think about that a second, and then apply it to the man on the street. Maybe extrapolate interest rates to double digit inflation and consider how wages act "in real terms" to such actions. Then, go one step further and consider the effects of the following recession.

Since we're all so outraged by the blanket travel bans here are 16 countries that ban Israelis. Looking forward to the mass protests...

Sixteen countries forbid admission to Israeli passport holders:

3 – Accepted for transit only; not allowed for admission.

What I don't understand is obama struggled to make his reforms as congressand the House of Representatives opposed a lot of his reforms, or diluted them.

Trump basically seems to be able to sign a piece of paper, these executive orders, and BOOM he can do whatever he wants. Where are these checks and balances?

Another day another long signature and another new law.

They are not "laws." Many of the things he has done by fiat are not actually what they are reported as, but may well BECOME LAW when the Republican House and Senate take up the issue and try to MAKE IT LAW. This is exactly one of the reasons I have stated Trump is the exact wrong person to run the country at exactly the wrong time...all three branches of government in the hands of the Republicans.

As you have seen from the Immigration Ban, he is not immune from ACTUAL LAW. However, there is some thought that his new DOJ will espouse Commander-in-Chief privilege, as he will frame it as a National Security issue. I don't see how ALL the language can remain, as some of it is clearly discriminatory in religious terms, but as is often the case...aim for the moon and the stars, and when you only get the moon, you declare victory and your enemies are left holding the bag of the legal creep from here to the moon! As the Commander-in-Chief, and without Congressional disapproval, there is VERY wide latitude given to the President's CinC status.

I do believe you have completely missed the point. We are talking about America...a country founded by immigrants, many of them from here btw, with laws that do not allow religious persecution because it was one of the founding principles of the country's formation.

Go figure.

At least rising inflation won't lead to interest rates rising and pensioners with savings sitting on even more wealth, at the expense of the younger generation.........

The sarcasm is thick this morning.

I was not intending to create a generational argument, just an observation about rising interest rates creating issues for many working class people, because wages lag consumer inflation, and guess who loses?! You called it!

I think you know I was supporting your position, but I'm not certain!

I see you. I hear you. I just do not understand you.

Help me out. You show me a list of Muslim theocracies and a Jewish ban. I explain that America is not a theocracy...or at least not supposed to be, per the Constitution, and you post an article about Spicer's nonsensical ramblings?

I see Spicer et al are now refering to Obama's Administration as creating this list. Excellent work! Alas, he didn't make the list to highlight who should be banned from entering the US....even with a vetted visa! As usual, a bastardization of actual facts into an alternative fact base from which they have extrapolated to infinity to create a new policy. It is as if Bannon was elected President, isn't it?!

Yes, I did, which is why I noted your sarcasm was understood. I then went on to agree with you, even though that was not the main point I was originally trying to get across in the earlier post about inflation and interest rates harming those with home debt and credit cards, etc...

We're good.

Bedtime here (0320) as I'm heading to the range tomorrow and I don't want to waste all that ammo! I'll be back to see how this has all blown up tomorrow, when Trump announces the far right winger he is nominating to SCOTUS.

Please, sir, may I have another?

He's certainly doing a great job at unifying the country, as he promised, isn't he.

I am starting to think that this guy, as well as having an ego that doesn't allow his head to fit in the oval office, is actually borderline insane.

I am coming to the conclusion that Bannon is the puppet master in this new administration. To me it looks like Trump's main aim is self aggrandisement and to enrich himself as much as possible. I honestly think his ambition is to be the richest man in the world and he will do as he's told if it helps him achieve that ambition. Bannon, on the other hand, seems to be a lot more sinister. He seems to be doing his best to effectively overturn the first amendment by getting his puppet to attack the press, marginalise and scapegoat minorities and do his best to appeal to the innate prejudices of a significant part of the population. His background at Breitbart giving a platform to neo-Nazi organisations would suggest where his sympathies lie. Although I've also done my best not to invoke Godwin's law I have to say there are striking similarities to the policies of the 3rd Reich. There seems to be moves to centralise power to a very small cabal within the white house with the CIA, State dept and even the NSC being marginalised. It wouldn't surprise me if he hugely increases the budget and powers of the Secret Service after he puts his own man in charge. It already has the right initials for what I think might be his aim. I hope I'm wrong.

I think the point he/she is trying to make is that the left are very quickly outraged by perceived injustices to liberal
values perpetrated by the US, or indeed the UK, even when those alleged injustices have the backing of democratically elected
governments. The countries listed have heads of state that have (probably) been invited to visit without the resultant hysteria
we are currently witnessing, yet are proven mysogynistic, autocratic, theocratic hellholes. The lack of focus on places with infinitely
more ghastly regimes than anything Trump does or proposes, smacks of cowardice, as they are taking on the easy targets.
I fully understand that you believe these to be irrelevant to the point, as the US has a constitution that contains protections
from adopting similar government and there is validity in that view, but it baffles people when we see the likes of Madonna
and Meryl Streep throwing hissy fits at Trump.
An aside here, is that we have a man of the left called Peter Tatchell, a brave and principled man who regularly demonstrates
against the likes of these odious regimes, so not all leftists are the same, he probably rails against Trump, I don't know, but
for many of the demonstrators
we're seeing recently, these places are completely ignored.
Anyway, sorry about the rant, and I understand it deflects slightly, but comparisons are needed to avoid hypocrisy imo.

Are you on some sort of medication? if not I think maybe you should consider it, you seem close to the edge with your ramblings and I'm genuinely concerned mate, why do you feel so much hatred/aghast/repulsion to people that have a different view to things than you, your starting to become a parody of yourself with your right wing leftist views and your intolerance levels really are off the chart, you're morphing into the people you claim to despise.
I don't feel insulted in anyway mate I've been called far worse things it's like water of a ducks back but for you to consider insults as a first response is quite strange and not something I would consider from a true liberal

Of course.

What's increasingly scary is that people from this side of the pond are falling for it, let alone the Americans who have this actively pushed on them by Bannon & co.
