Pep (Sky Interview)

Very clever man.
Said a lot but gave away very little that wasn’t already known.
Bamboozeled Neville no end despite ratboy’s all too obvious attempts to tap into his secrets.
Truth is we are becoming the ultimate team, one that plays like a real unit. It’s done through drilling over and over again on set patterns of play. When players move in a certain direction all others know what to do and where to go. It looks very simple but extremely complicated to achieve. That’s Pep’s secret and why nobody else can emulate it.
The man is an absolute genius!

I actually thought he was quite transparent. It's the perfect harmony of saying to someone, here's exactly how to do something, yet they don't have the wherewithal to apply it.

Surprised by how many are nervous about the tactical discussion. As if anyone can implement those ideas, and as if anyone can stop find the perfect way to stop them. None of this is new info for coaches, but it's the man behind the ideas that makes them work. That commitment, energy, foresight, intelligence, desire to improve, his incredible people skills - those are what make the tactics work. Not literally just the tactics. And he clearly gave a very simple watered down version anyway....you can't emulate Pep in a text book. He's a genius.

Things change quickly in football but can't help but to think that he loves it here and that he is going to stay for quite a few years more.

Pep's positional play ain't that simple, that's one reason it took time for the team to get to the right level.

Nice programme with a couple of classic moments. Nothing really new in there in terms of information but it did demonstrate what a likable personality he is and just how quick his football brain is.

It can't be that complicated, or footballers wouldn't be able to do it.

I think it's the small things, all added together, which are making the difference.

Before Pep arrived, we saw the kids' teams playing like Pep, or at least trying to & they were tactically more advanced in many ways, than the first team. The first team at times looked dumb by comparison.

But then you suddenly see how the real Pep team, is more advanced by a country mile & how the kids' version was more of a halfarsed one because Pep's team does it all 100%.
