Apologies if this is in the wrong section but I have just read this by Martin Samuel in today's Mail.

" Tottenham are believed to be making £800,000 from hospitality, food and drink at their new stadium — and that's just before kick-off. By way of comparison, on a good day, takings at Manchester City are in the region of £150,000. In time, this will tell. "

Surely this can't be correct? How can they make so much extra revenue?

A few questions that Martin Samuel and Spurs will likely not be answering, but which can significantly change the numbers and comparison:

1) What does “make” mean in this context?

2) Is this the hospitality, food, and drink management contract(s) (if not all internally managed), direct sales revenue, or a combination (or even factoring in other revenue sharing)? What about for us?

3) What is the cost of the totality of services, goods, and facilities to Spurs for said hospitality, food, and drink? What about for us?

4) Who is originating this “belief”?

5) Is this legitimately forecast to be consistent over time (i.e. beyond the “new stadium honeymoon” period; see Arsenal, Emirates)?

6) What are the comparables for other London clubs by stadium and facilities capacity?

7) What is a “good day” for us (other than the pound estimate)? The above questions also apply for our estimate.

8) How much of this is media ****?

We’ll just put the price of oil up by 1p:)

You'd imagine that will come down slightly after the aforementioned honeymoon period.

However, no doubt that Arsenal and Spurs way ahead of us in this area - partly because of the wider range of hospitality, food and drink available.

But mainly because of the demographics of the match going supporters; what they are able to and willing to pay for.

So if they use the extra hospitality money to cover the stadium costs, it would only take them 1200 or so games and 40 years @30 a season if they qualify for europe and compete in the cups. Obviously the 40 years would get brought down with inflation but still cant see the extra cash going anyway other than to levy.

If we’re taking £150k a game then that’s less than £5m a season. But we don’t know if these are like-for-like figures. Spurs could class hospitality revenue, e.g. a sit down meal, as hospitality revenue and show the seat revenue separately whereas we’d class it all as matchday revenue. So if someone paid £500 for the Tunnel Club we’d class it all as matchday revenue whereas Spurs might show it as £350 hospitality & £150 matchday income.

Firstly, that figure is so large it has to be takings not profit.
Secondly, they are taking 200k shy of 1 million pounds per game, pre-match? Of course that is possible!
