Jesus offside goal vs West Ham - Explanation in the Mail

pls. read more carefully, my last post said that hawkeye was used in the Prem. the other system was used in Netherlands and a club world cup.
my point is it's doable for the other system to do offsides, and more accurate as the position of the sensors are absolute, no frame rate variation, or human interpretation.
feasible? that's a different debate.
other than that I don't care mate.

I don’t care either, the electromagnetic system was trailed and not selected for GLT cos it isn’t accurate enough.

This threads been about the premier league, I.e the difference between why high speed cameras work for GLT and why slow frame rate systems don’t work ideally for offsides.

You turn up talking shit about magic sensors which have been shown to be inferior and then bang on about a system that nones interestied in because it’s inferior to what is used currently.

I’ve got involved in this to try and help blues understand why we can rely on GLT but not the offside stuff. I can do this because I actually have some real knowledge of the technology

You turn up and start arguing about nothing.

Let’s leave it there... I’m fucking bored now.

At the end of the day - I don’t think VAR stands a chance. It’s a technology system but if you place it in the hands of potentially corrupt and certainly incompetent individuals like Chris Foy - what do you expect ? Put this kind of process in the hands of imbeciles and you’ll get the mess we are presently witnessing. The attitude of PGMOL is not good for the game - it’s overly zealous officialdom brought about by overly defensive paranoia. They are not looking to improve the game with VAR they are looking to justify their arrogance and extend their power and influence. We have seen in our first two games that they are clearly looking for reasons to disallow goals rather than be balanced and objective. I fear a few more weeks of this and there will be a major crisis in the game. It’s not the technology that’s the problem but the attitude of those tasked with overseeing the interpretation of the rules. For evidence of this just watch Dermot Gallagher on Sky - he’s one fucked up individual - defensive as hell, paranoid, who manipulates facts at Will to justify his illogical interpretation of facts. He’s typical of those tasked with overseeing the game- and it’s no wonder we have a problem- power crazy people only get worse when you give them more power PGMOL needed reigning in not letting off the leash.

An explanation in the Mail of how that decision come about and the huge problem with it, now they've had time to look into it.

Basically the final point of contact from Silva to Sterling was lost. They had a frame when Silva was playing the ball with Sterling over 10cm's onside and they used the frame where the ball had already gone where he was 2.5cm offside. Losing the point where it was actually played.

In the 0.02 seconds between frames Sterling had moved around 13cm's.

So they're not even using sufficient enough equipment to make these calls.

That is what Andy Gray said on Bein Sport. He also stated that with the ball being a soft object a players foot sticks on the ball slightly and this makes a difference to what frame is used, this makes a big difference on offside decisions, I felt the second Sterling goal was probably more offside than the Jesus goal. VAR isn’t technically advanced enough to make really tight offside calls.

Agree 100%

In the build up the ball is played to Silva who plays a 1st time pass, no control or steadying touch therefore the frame should have been stopped the moment it made contact with David's foot and if it had raz would of been onside.

I would like to thank mikemcfc for his comments at the foot of page 3 which I have just read. They made me laugh and forget the injustices!

It should be for clear an obvious errors. This was not clear and obvious. Same as last nights Wolves goal.

Absolutely this. It’s not hard, is it? Technology to right obvious wrongs. Microphones so we hear what is going on. Job done.

Sack off mm offside decisions as the tech isn’t there yet but, when it is, bring that in too.

But then you read the Swarbrick comments and you wonder what the point of VAR is at all if they reviewed the Rodri incident and said he took a dive. And why they didn’t book him for simulation in that case is also genuinely mystifying.

someone else (with more tech knowledge) said those figures were exactly right as frame speeds were quicker.....I cannt remember who that was...

the only way of sorting that out is to have an agreed compensation measurement...ie if thecomputer shows that a player is within x and y cms' off side then thate player isnt offside.....

Surelyit would make it easier if we went back to the rule where there had to be clear daylight between the attacker and defender...ie level is on side but also even if part of the attackers body is beyond the defender but for instance his trailing leg was still level or behind the defender then the attacker is still onside.....Ie benefit of doubt to the attacker (which i believe is not a line they are using anymore within the rules)

Agree 100%

as someone else pointed out today - the main issue is the lack of willingness for anyone within the ref ommunity (paymasters or atual refs) to hold their hands up and say "yup we/1 made a mistake on that one...I for one could live with that (though there are less forgiving souls on here!) :-)
