Another ridiculous ruling I discovered today.

This. At the Academy stadium, my keys fell out of my pocket when leaving and when i realised literally as soon as left the stadium, i was unable to go back in and pick them up, even though i could see them 20 yards away! That's not the most ridiculous thing about the situation. The steward was unable to leave his post to retrieve them so i had to shout to someone to pick them up for me and wait till he left the stadium gates. It must be a health and safety criteria at stadiums and events as i have seen similar at gigs and even the theatre.
What the fuck?! Hahaha, mate I would have lost my shit with that, this is the sort of thing I fucking hate about elf and safety and anal bastards who just can’t use a bit of common sense.

Ah. Ok. Think we’re on the same wavelength then - although I do think some people on here do have an issue with security checks in that they expect the stewards to make exceptions - when, of course, they have to be consistent

I don't think anyone, myself included, have an issue with security checks, although I stand by saying in the terrorism threat we face today, which is people prepared to die to kill others, I don't think they stop anyone. Intelligence led prevention is doing that, when it fails badly, as it did in the Manchester bombing, we see the result. Anyone carrying a bomb on them or in a bag would just detonate it if it was about to be discovered. Most security scares are idiots leaving bags and packages unattended and are usually false alarms. They should be prosecuted in my opinion.

In my case the head steward did make an exception. Over the years he has seen me as he is always in the vicinity where I enter and exit and we have had a brief chat and hello on occasion. He used some common sense. As did the one who let a father's child back in to use the toilet. The amount of people wanting to re enter the stadium once they have left must be minimal. If I had gone another fifty yards I wouldn't have bothered myself, it was only the fact I had one foot out of the exit I did. Now I am aware they operate this rule I just wouldn't go through the aggravation involved trying to go back in again.

Exactly. It is blindly following rules when a bit of common sense should be applied. " There are my keys on the floor. Look we can both see them. I need them to drive home/get into my house, can I just go in and pick them up, or can you get them and hand them over?"

"No sorry Sir nobody is allowed back into the stadium under any circumstances. I am afraid I cannot move from this position to walk 20 feet and pick up your keys, against the rules! Can't drive home/get into your house as a result? Nothing I can do I'm afraid, rules are rules!"

If they were genuinely that bothered about the security of fans maybe they would revisit the policy of having thousands queuing up outside waiting to get searched I.e sitting ducks

There should be a perimeter, show your ticket to get through then get searched as you go into the stadium. Just like at West Ham, Hertha Berlin and I assume many more

Last ladies home game I went to on a Sunday they had one male steward checking bags and one female steward doing the wanding. There were literally hundreds of people queueing to get in.
Bet there were more queuing to get out.

So I am on my way out of the south stand today when I realised I had left the latest issue of king of the kippax in a plastic bag under my seat. I literally had one foot out of the exit so quickly about turned to return and get it. I was immediately clotheslined across my chest with some force by a female steward snarling I couldn't go back in once I had left. I think my momentum and the force she thrust her arm out, meaning i was hit with some power shocked her as she quickly apologised for hitting me but said she couldn't let me back in. I replied that was ridiculous, I had left something under my seat it would take me seconds to go and get it. No I was not allowed back in! Luckily for me the head steward, the rasta guy who is a decent chap, overruled her but had to escort me back to my seat and wait, then ensure I left.

What the fuck is it with stewards and treating football fans, who are paying customers by the way, like some sort of criminal to be shoved and denied a simple request to return and get something they have left behind? Who makes up such a stupid rule anyway? I get you can't have loads of fans traipsing back into the stadium willy nilly but surely common sense should be applied when someone has forgotten something? She didn't know what I had left and wasn't interested, it was she had her orders and no way was I going back in. Kudos to the head steward for showing some common sense but I was still treated as if I was doing something wrong. He even said, " I have had a word Barbara" as I left. Going to a game these days is like being a visitor to a cat A prison!
You should have been arrested (for buying King of the Kippax).

We must have one of the oldest fan bases out there and most of us have been season ticket holders for many years. On record they have our addresses, ages, lots of other information we may have procured and the security services can access this at any time. How about issuing a fast track pass for long standing season ticket holders like they do at airports? The pass has to match your card and you go through a speedier check and turnstile unless you are carrying a bag. Tourists, day trippers and new fans are vetted a little more carefully.

Great magazine, much better than the programme and the same price. Over the years I have left the odd programme or fanzine under my seat but not realised until I was well away from the stadium. Annoying but one of those things.

This would perhaps be an option with the eye recognition City were talking about.

Just having a S/C & pass means nothing, what if you'd sold a family members ticket in the pub to pass back inside & it ended up in 'wrong hands'

That being said we've all seen flares in with the dips & rags so the searches are shit anyway. If you can get a flare in you can get an explosive device in.....and don't get me started on forgetful FOC's ;)

Possibly with a picture, or failing that a picture ID?

I agree the searches are shit. People smuggle in bottles of drink etcetera which could easily be explosives. To be totally effective pockets would have to be emptied, bags searched, as well as scanners people body frisked to ensure they are not wearing explosive vests. It would take forever and the terrorists would just detonate their device amongst the huge disgruntled crowd, job done.
