Atalanta (A) CL Post-Match Thread

They did indeed, and like any long distance race its what you do at the end of that race that matters, hence despite being less than impressed by how we have started this season in many respects I have far from written it off...the fact remains perform like tonight and we will win fuck all, I am not for one minute suggesting we will be as poor as we were tonight again. If we do repeat tonight at the level we need to be, it will fuck us right up and we will win nowt.

Repeat tonight what will be the outcome at Klanfield?

As for the CL its vastly superior to the old European Cup....after all when Liverpool were winning thier millions of CL trophies they were meeting some pretty poor sides in the latter stages of the competition.....FC Bruges in the final at Wembley for example. I bet you as long as you have a hole in your arse we dont even play that level of opposition in the group stages...yes I know Liverppol met worse last night but that Liverpool.
The players aren’t machines, they know as well as you and I do that some games you need to be eyeballs out absolutely on it i.e Sunday and some games i.e tonight’s aren’t all that important.

I think it’s only superior in terms of revenue streams which of course is the only point to it nowadays. At least back then it was a tournament for champions not also rans and Lpool wouldn’t have faced many teams as bad as last year’s finalists - mid table Tottenham who lost 20 games last season.

Bizarre and fun. And though I think I like him more than many, gundogan - for as steady as he is sometimes - is really loose with his little one touch passes and dance moves in about the worst conceivable parts of the pitch. There were a few one touch passes in the first half in particular that were absolutely terrible, squandered good forward moves, turned the ball over in a dangerously direct manner, and that could have been punished by a superior team. He’s a bit too casual at times.

I’ve clearly been watching the wrong game all my life if that’s acceptable or Refs are so naive

Talk about selective. The next 6 words clearly show what I meant.
I’m not saying it’s right I’m saying that’s how the game is reffed now.
If you go to ground between a striker and the goal you will concede a foul. Right or wrong the onus is not on the attacker to jump over you or go around.

Not a bad result

Entertaining first goal, starting from Sterling getting the ball back to Bernardo simple & smart pass to Jesus who set it up nicely for Sterling.

Gundogan also created some real chances as well.

The overall performance was below what we used to see from City, and it has been the case recently.

Liverpool durning their run of wins in the old format of this competition faced the champions of the likes of Ireland, Norway, Cyprus and Bulgaria whilst at the same time the champions of Spain, Italy, France and Germany could have played each other in the first round. It was possible in those days to progress to at least the semi final without playing any decent sides

That was the craziest game I’ve seen in a long time, but damn if it wasn’t refreshing to see the old City pop out from nowhere.

I’m actually more energised for the Liverpool game. Against all odds I think we will beat them.
