I make no apologies for repeating myself but I'm a business analyst who looks at (among other things) business processes. And in my line of work we use a technique called 'The 7 So Whats'. This involves looking at a proposed solution to business problem and asking "So what happens if we do this?' In other words, what are the foreseeable outcomes. The theory is that if you ask that question seven times, you should have a good idea of the ultimate consequences of your proposed solution.
In this case, the first and most obvious 'so what' is "So what if someone doesn't have NFC on their phone?". You don't have to be an experienced business analyst or member of Mensa to come up with that. The next is "So what if they do have NFC but it doesn't work?". Yet City had no solution in place to either.
We're still completely fucking amateurs operationally but no one at executive level gives a shit.
