It is nearly 60 years now since England won the world cup. After watching yesterdays game against Newcastle I have the feeling we are going backwards in football style with this seasons offerings and Arsenal winning games with tactics that got Pulis, Allerdyce and others hounded out as dinosaurs in a modern game. Yesterday showed Eddie Howe that having three 'enforcers' in midfield and lenient referees he could put the clock back and achieve his aim of winning. Along with pundits who tell all and sundry that putting the boot in is the way to do it, well at least how to stop City. I don't think in an international tournament England would get away with using these tactics and roughhousery. So personally I can't see England winning it again any time soon. After watching years of Pep and his different teams approach to the beautiful game I really am at a loss to understand this dropoff to the lowest common denominator style of football that is now the Premier League, where our future England players learn their trade.
