16 | Rodri 2025/26

If the issues regarding Rodri's return to the team are thought to be in doubt by the club, then I believe that they must try and sign a midfielder capable of stiffening up our midfield.

Nico cannot be expected to try and deal with the issue on his own, and I believe the weakness in our midfield set up is what is causing the defence to look so vulnerable.

Having teams running straight at the defensive line is suicidal, as Fulham clearly demonstrated.
 
We’ll give Rodri as long as is necessary, but even then, so long out means the body is going to break down again in different areas, so further absences can be anticipated. Irrespective of his signing a new contract or not, the club should be identifying an alternative. The only question is whether it is a more established player or a prodigy.

His knee isn't the issue.

He did a hamstring and has been out 4 weeks but is in training and will probably be back in the next 2 weeks.

If he was out longer Pep would say so, like Kovacic.

IMO Lots of people reading too much into a very common muscle injury following an ACL.

Didn't he do his hamstring away to Brentford? If so that was 60 days ago - 5th Oct was that particular game.

Although, completely agree with what you are saying.

It’s been so long that you start to get conspiracy theories but he will pick up injuries in other areas for a bit. Mentally the player must be able to trust that the knee is fine because if they go in half heartedly that’s when they can get injured again.

I think he and Pep are just going extra cautious because our season is building, and if Rodri can come back and stay back for 5 months we could win the title, the CL, anything.

I think this is why Pep's so optimistic and cheery in the press conferences despite the Fulham and Leeds 2nd halves. We've got the forwards going. Foden, Doku, Haaland are firing. Nico and Nico have been revelations the past 2 months. Reijnders scored a lovely goal and looked more confident, Cherki has come back from his injury really well. Might even go for Semenyo in January...

If we can just keep getting results over the line until Rodri's back, I don't think a big run is that far away, which is what Pep keeps saying!

If that’s the case, which I don’t think it is, then he should just say as much and provide more clarity versus the stupid things he’s saying currently. It’s not hard to adjust the framing slightly to say this. Versus no he’s not ready but close for 3 weeks
 
He will be back when hes back. Extremeky unfortunate for the club and himself but we gave to deal with the hand dealt.
He was always going to pick up a few seperate injurues on his comeback, we shouldnt read to mych into it.
Feel like a few are writing him off way too early.
If he returns before end of Jan i reckon it gives us tge boost needed at just the right time and if we are within 5 points of the too then anything can happen.

Seemed pretty positive to me, the Madrid (half!?) joke seemed to counter the "few years" joke but we'll see
 
The way Pep is talking about Rodri now is what he should have been saying in May. Starting him 3 games in a week around that arsenal game was plain negligent and that's why he is now weeks if not months behind where he might otherwise had been.

At least he seems to have learnt his lesson and he'll be eased back in. Us fans really need to stop wondering when he'll be back and just write him off for the season and consider it a welcome bonus when he does feature. His aim will be to be fit for the world cup and to go into next season with a clean bill of health.

Sadly its his age.

Most of the fans love Rodri but he's 30.. not Gundogan at 26 when he had his ACL.

Yep. People act like he's laid up in his flat smoking 2 packs a day binging old episodes of Top Gear and Eastenders downing 2 bags of crisps in a go.

He's a ballon d'or winning top level athlete who sustained a major injury for fuck sake. Everyone said Gundo was crocked when we bought him... turned out ok.

Rodri has started to train on the pitch again and is a few weeks away from returning, Pep Guardiola has confirmed!

“No [setback]. It was a muscular injury against Brentford in a high tendon muscular, hamstring area. Needs to be a bit more careful. After what happened previously with the setbacks we have to be more cautious. Make more safe steps not to happen again.

The recovery he’s doing well. He’s started to make training sessions on the pitch already. Hopefully in a few weeks he can start to be with us. When? My friend is desperate to know when. I will tell you.”

In the winter we need a defensive mid to shore midfield up and stop attacks before they happen . That signing could win us the title
