Classic Rock (Phil Collins lives, run for the hills)

Two in one day wow. Anyway I’ll be looking forward to this far more than the SHTB album above
New album “Sanctuary” in June.

Just back from a cinema screening of Burning Ambition, the new Iron Maiden film.

Overall, very enjoyable. A bit too much of the fans/talking heads (hello Javier) at the expense of the band, but wonderful concert footage was edited well (amazing to see one track from 86, when I didn’t think any footage existed from that tour) and covered most of the eras considering the need for a reasonable running time.
A story of Bruce and Steve really. The Blaze Bayley era comes across as a bit of a sad experience/era but I’m sure there were some good times too.
Oh and I’d forgotten just how good looking Murray was back then.

I will never forget travelling up to Hammersmith Odeon without concert tickets to try and see them in 1982.
My mate lived in London back then and said we would get tickets from the touts.
No chance - all tickets gone.absolute sell out.
Ended up going to see Angelwitch at the Marquee the following night.

Saw them on the 86 tour at the Apollo. Caught Nicko's wrist band, which was a great momento (after a wash!)

My favourite time seeing them that night, and one of my best ever gigs. It’s a tragedy they never filmed that tour, footage is as rare as rocking horse …

I loved that album too, but I can still recall the blade runner intro, the sci fi backdrops, Bruce coming on with that flashing light jacket, Eddie appearing under the rising drum riser, and those ridiculous inflatable hands appearing out into the audience under each set of speakers. Oh, and an incredible set list. Last time they played venues the size of the Apollo. I’ll never forget it.

They should shut all the arenas and get all bands back into places like the Apollo - even the back row of the circle felt close, but getting to the front from the stalls was incredible. Seeing the likes of Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica in there for about £6 fueled my love of music you'd never get in some soulless arena where you end up having to watch the big screens you're so far away

Remember seeing AC/DC Fly on the Wall tour and Marillion misplaced childhood tour, must have been 1986, and both at the Apollo and in the same week, only a couple of days apart. My hearing was absolutely shot.

And yet more inertia from a band I loved so well. This current iteration should be out to sleep. Mr Howe is killing the legacy of a once great band. The album “Aurora” is out soon.

Another band who seem to have lost their their way is fellow countrymen/woman Magenta. The album “Tarot” is also due out. What I’ve heard so far sound so derivative of previous works.

Thank god for Evanescence :-)
