16 | Rodri 2025/26

I agree he could silence all the noise and commit himself but that wouldn't be a good idea on his part, even if he wants to stay, he puts himself in a better position to get a better contract if he doesn't say so.

Also note that City’s denial of what Riquelme was saying only concerned Haaland, despite Riquelme mentioning Haaland AND Rodri. Rodri has already made his mind up. He’s joining Madrid. More likely next summer on a free than this window, but his decision is made imo.
I'm not saying he doesn't want to leave but the two aren't related. City's response was regarding the player rights infringement they believe happened with the Haaland Madrid shirt, that was what prompted the statement. the denial is all to bolster the legal action they may decide to take. They didn't have a Rodri shirt so they didn't mention him.

FWIW, we did deny it stating we expect him to stay past the World Cup and into next season. Albeit not as strict a denial as the Haaland one but to be expected given the contract context.

I think you are seeing this all wrong. He isn't trying to clear the air, he is trying to signal as professionally as he can that "Yes, i would like to go to Madrid."

Its just as fans we love him and don't want this to be the case.

Since he got injured, he has wanted out. Every interview has been a clear " We'll see the future"

The only question now is whether we:
1. Acquiesce and sell now ( my favorite option)
2. Pull a Bernado ( please stay and finish your Contract)
3. Q3 try to bribe him with as much money as possible and a 4 year deal (least favorite option).

I am very comfortably in group 1. I 5hink this is the year to let him go. He was here for his peak. He has maybe one injury free peak year left and perhaps 2 other injury hampered peak years... At best.

I think we need to let this happen and live with it.

Yeah. The thing that annoys me is that he was asked today if he has an agreement with Riquelme.

Rather than saying no - because he shouldn’t have one given he’s contracted to the club for another 12 months and technically (we know he will be but the official line is no) shouldn’t be speaking to other clubs - he’s left it open to interpretation.

Don't really like Rodri leaving the questions about Madrid open-ended tbh. Not even a hint of denial, and he will know the latest deflection indicates there is something going on behind the scenes to us fans.

Past his best or not, losing Rodri, Stones, Bernardo and Pep in one go is going to hurt us very badly. If we lose Ake and/or Josko as well we will be in a tough spot. We should be trying to hold onto Rodri but I think this looks a foregone conclusion sadly.

I mean Rodri's comments are to be expected, he's not going to throw away his leverage for a better contract. This is just standard negotiating tactics from a top player.

While I agree that we have had Rodri's best years, it is undeniable that he is still our most important and best midfielder when healthy. He made Zubimendi look like a fucking scrub when we played Assenal - would be a big blow to lose him to Madrid in the same season as losing Pep.

Would much prefer to keep him for another 3 seasons to help provide some stability as changing managers is already enough turmoil without also losing a Ballon'dor winning DM. But we won't force him to stay, so if he fucks off to madrid that's that and I'll thank the lad for some great fucking years of football.

I would rather we hold onto Josko. I think we have seen the best of Rodri. If he wants to go fair enough but if it's Real Madrid he will really go down character wise in my estimation

He’s given City everything and will always be a legend. Let’s face it, he’s coming back from a career threatening injury, at City he gets no referees protection, La Liga is a lot less physical and if he went to Real he would get protected.

I hope he stays but will understand if he doesn’t.

Agree he’s been targeted in every single game since his return.

The man has no loyalty if he leaves, playing for the bitter rivals of his boyhood club and the team that called his Ballon D’or a disgrace lol
Biggest word in the dictionary, my Dad always said. We coped well when Silva retired to Spain because that must be what it’s like, leaving the Premier League to go there. Yes, we had a master of a boss called Guardiola who pulled the strings and now we don’t but Khaldoon thinks we’re going to be ok, so that’ll do for me.

If he wants to go, let him go. We’re not the scousers.

I’d have been proper gutted pre ACL . We just need a proper replacement or to back Gonzalez.

If he is happy to stay then great, he’s still an exceptional midfielder but he’s not quite the generational talent he was sadly.

Do you think he will put 100% in next season if he’s off, he doesn’t want to get injured and scupper any move, if he wants out sell him now and move on.
Yes seeing he has missed nearly two sesason through injury. This is mostly down to Real Madrid trying to unsettle him, Same could be said of Gvardiol who has a good chunk of the season too and is looking to get back to match sharpness.

Its a two year injury. When he returned the 2nd time this year we lost one game. Lets not start letting our best players go - and he's 30 - for a DM, of his ilk, thats not past it.
Nobody is talking about letting him go. I'd he wants to go there ain't much we can do about it
