Blue blood: the mike doyle story

Agree, parts of Kicked Into Touch came across a bit contrived, but fair do's, it broke the mould at the time by injecting some humour and self-deprecation into a football autobiography. Niall Quinn's book is a pretty good read, IMO, although the focus on City is limited, with more emphasis on...

    Mel Machin sacked

What fascinating films, particularly Swales' cringeworthy attempts at repartee - or should that be rapport? - with Jimmy Greaves... And yet more confirmation that Swales was an embarrassing, shambolic amateur who made us the butt of a thousand jokes. Anyone who ever moans about Garry Cook...

    moonchester

If memory serves I think the 3rd option was a caped crusader-type character. The guy who devised Moonchester was called Mick Peek; he worked in the club's commercial department in the mid 1990s.

Lakey's (last) Blue Tuesday question...Who Would You Thank?

I'd like to thank the club for the compassion they showed Carlos during his issues in Argentina. I think he's more than repaid us since then. Player of the Season hands down, and will hopefully be raring to go for us next season after wowing them all in the world cup

    Books

I thoroughly recommend my Father and Other Stories by Gary Imlach. Won the Sports Book of the Year award. Beautifully written book about the author's quest to find out more about his father, Stewart Imlach, who played for a number of Scottish and English clubs in the 1950s/60s. Would bring a...

What's the best football book of all time?

That is so typical of City's 'corridors of power' in the mid-1990s, when the club was crawling with all manner of creeps and cronies... As regards the OP, my fave non-City book is Gary Imlach's beautifully written 'My Father and Other Stories' which traces his late father Stuart's footballing...

Blue Tuesday in Abu Dhabi: If you could ask Sheikh Mansour..

I would ask Sheikh Mansour if he is able to watch every City game and, if so, from where?

Lakey's Blue Tuesday question: City Horror Shows

My horror show was the 3-2 derby defeat at Maine Road in November '93...two-nil up courtesy of two goals from Quinny, only for the rags to come back from the dead and beat us. A true nightmare.

    Parents

GroBags. Little sleeping bag-type things that you put on babies instead of using blankets. They're not cheap, but GroBags regulate a baby's temperature much better than blankets and definitely allayed my fears of cot death. And my kids slept like logs in them :)
