Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

It's an achievement for a team to stay up when they're expected to go down isn't it?

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

What a daft comment. He's kept the likes of Sunderland, Palace and Blackburn up. How did he manage that without improving the performance of the players he inherited?

Allardyce – Promotion from Championship/League Cup semi-final/F.A.Cup semi-final/Four consecutive top eight finishes/Qualified for UEFA Cup twice/League Cup final Rioch – Promotion from League 1/Promotion from Championship/League Cup final/Never managed us in the Premier League

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

You must be joking. How many teams that are relegated from the Premier League come straight back up? A lot of them end up in League 1 before they bounce back and not necessarily to the Premier League.

I didn't ask you what they'd achieved in the past, i asked you what you think they're capable of achieving in the future.

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

Utter drivel. Qualifying for Europe, finishing 8th, keeping a team up from a seemingly hopeless position, is not 'narrowly avoiding complete failure'. That says more about your prejudice against him than his ability as a manager.

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

Very nearly? They should have appointed Allardyce. He would have kept them up.

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

I think you'll find it does. If it was that easy to keep a team up whilst playing free-flowing football, they would have brought someone else in. Silva failed to keep Hull up and was working the same magic at Watford when they potted him.

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

How entertaining were Hull? I don't think there are many Premier League chairman who think that 8th is no different than 17th.

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

If it was that easy why did Koeman fail with pretty much the same squad?

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

The only reason he didn't get a summer transfer window is because Everton were always planning to bring in Silva and give him the budget. I doubt they've done that to finish lower than 8th. I also doubt that Everton supporters will be satisfied with 'some aesthetically pleasing football' if...

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

How much did Allardyce spend compared to Koeman and Marco Silva? I should hope that Silva is capable of finishing higher than 8th, otherwise Everton have spent an absolute fortune to either stand still or go backwards.

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

Safety? Everton finished 8th, one place off a Europa League position! How far do you see them progressing beyond that?

Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

He's kept Bolton, Blackburn, West Ham, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Everton up from difficult positions. He left Bolton in a UEFA Cup position, Everton in 8th and West Ham in the top half. He also got two of those teams promoted. Name someone who has had as much success at keeping teams in...
