    Joke thread

Mike and Bernie Winters were about as funny as woodworm in a cripple's crutch. Ken Platt, Al Read, Jimmy Clitheroe and Dick Emery (a euphanism?) were pretty dire too

    Conscription

Conscription never really worked anyway at least in peacetime. It was abolished in 1960 (different times). The army had only 2 years to train up young men the majority of which were not fully committed. Too many square pegs in round holes.

    Who's your favourite screen villain?

I know that some of Vincent Price's horror films are jokey, tongue in cheek/ over the top but his performances in Witchfinder General, Theatre of Blood and The Abominable Doctor Phibes are really terrifying.

    Who's your favourite screen villain?

Mine would be Tim Roth in the Liam Neeson film Rob Roy. As Archie the fey murderous ward (probably son) of the Duke of Montrose he was his sworn enemy. After causing a poor servant girl's pregnancy (she hanged herself when she was cast from the household) he raped Rob Roy's wife, razed their...

    Annie Nightingale RIP.

She was a very respected DJ and blazed a trail for her sex (Jo Wiley, Jacky Brambles and Zoe Ball later on). I remember whilst on a working holiday in Cuba she was unfortunately mugged in Havana. Fidel Castro, a great fan, personally visited her in hospital and ordered the police force to find...

Best all time Beatles album tracks combined in one CD.

From original LPs which did have 2 sides. My original post was meant to cover those tracks on Beatles albums only from Please Please Me (1963) to the final Let It Be (1970) discounting singles, EPs and compilations (eg red and blue albums). Eleanor Rigby was later released as a double A side...

Best all time Beatles album tracks combined in one CD.

Something was originally definitely a track on Abbey Road (side 1 track 2) as was Here Comes The Sun (side 2 track 1). I know as I'm holding the LP. Might have been released as a single later

    Greatest Movie Director

Hitchcock - he got split personality off to a tee. Real shame he didn't get a best director Oscar. Billy Wilder, David Lean and Spielberg just behind.

    Joke thread

A nun was quietly sitting alone in a train compartment when a young drunken man entered. He was carrying a large bag of prawns and started eating them whilst flicking the shells at her. He cursed her loudly saying "I really hate all religious types - especially Roman Catholic cunts like you." He...
