Grown adult kids at home

Nothing wrong with young adults living with their parents when rent and bills are expensive. Living with the parents allows young adults to save up for a deposit whilst supporting their family with rent etc so win/win.

I moved out at 18 to go to uni then moved to London for my first post graduate job forking out £800 a month rent (this was 15 years a go). Many mates lived at home and were able to travel the world etc. I would have loved to have lived at home and save but instead I was skint and saved what I could. Fortunately I've been able to buy a house in my 30s but nothing wrong with living with the rents. Times are different and life's expensive.

I moved out at 18 because Mrs Gaz at the time was pregnant we had young Gaz and tried to make it work for 2 years, ended up splitting, selling up and I moved back in with my mum and dad for 6 months rent free, hated every second of it after having the freedom of my own house etc, ended up getting a mortgage with my mate lived together for 3 or 4 years then he moved in with his Mrs and my Mrs moved in where weve been since and have 2 more little Miss Gaz's.

Young Gaz moved back in with us last year while he was still at college, he started an apprenticeship in September last year I dont take any keep off him yet, still pay his phone bill and when I can be arsed make his dinners for work, I just want him to enjoy being young go on holidays, go on the piss, buy shit clothes he doesnt need, he's got a long shit time ahead when he does have responsibilities and bills to pay.

Yes but he's now 28...

Surprised that both our lads left home at 18 and haven't come back (yet).

Our eldest moved to Sheffield for Uni, stayed there after Covid in a house he bought with mates with some help from us. Having the time of his life, good IT job, cheap pubs, borrows my City season ticket when I can't go. We live 5 minutes from him, so see him most weeks, ideal scenario.

Other lad, couple years younger, moved to Manchester, also at 18 to be a barber (now in Helvete opposite Chinese arch), moved in with girlfriend and now living in Piccadilly basin. 20 minutes walk to the Etihad. No idea how he affords to buy a house in town, mind. See him once a fortnight.

Knew someone would argue with the office of national statistics :)

He's actually spot on. Remind me of the excellent work done by the geographer Danny Dorling.

Young middle class professionals usually in their thirties buy up a home in areas previously occupied by families and look on it more of an investment rather than paying extra for wasted space. Particularly in London.

If you have millions of extra people they will need a lot of houses.
No brainer I'd have thought but no doubt Mr K the bluemoon resident expert on....well everything, will proclaim the office of national statistics wrong. :)
