Greatest Movie Director

Hitchcock - he got split personality off to a tee. Real shame he didn't get a best director Oscar. Billy Wilder, David Lean and Spielberg just behind.

Hitchcock is my second behind Kubrick. Although it could change on a daily basis.

I remember being blown away the first time I watched North by Northwest.

Clarkie, right?

Choosing to take the question seriously, though, I noticed the absence of Bergman in these lists. I've got several of his films and have seen others in the cinema, but I admit I have difficulty getting on with him.
I have no idea what a clarkie is, as in the 10+ years it has been tiredly used it has been diluted so it has little meaning anymore.

On Ingman Berrngam bar parodies and homages to the seventh seal in the likes of Bill and Ted I doubt most of the great mimlnds on here have heard of him ;-)

I can honestly say I have never seen one of his films even though I know who he is

The Fog, Escape from New York and The Thing in three successive years was such a high quality run.
I adore the first two movies; not sure they quite count as great movies in the way their two preceding movies do.

The Thing was a bit of a disappointment on release but has become more appreciated generally over the years. Great work by Rob Bottin. The four movies from Assault through EFNY are all in my personal top 100 films or would be if I compiled one.

Escape was one of my most memorable movie going experiences, saw it in L.A. and let’s just say my friend and I were in a minority in the audience, who were literally cheering Snake on at the end.
