I went to school near Stockport in the late sixties and in my class it was 75% City with those that were interested in football.. One lad supported Altrincham, and used to wear a lapel badge saying Altrinchampions which amused me.

What's the easiest job you have ever had?

Bobby Charlton passes away at the age of 86

A great great player who never really recovered from Munich. Haunted him for years. I remember going on holiday to Greece with my mum and dad around 1963 and the taxi driver from the airport asked where we were from. My dad replied Manchester and the driver said "Ah, Bobbee Charlton".

    I don't get arena gigs

Regarding the queue for tickets in 1978, Paul M'cCartney and Wings were playing at The Manchester Apollo in Ardwick. Tickets went on sale at the box office on a Sunday morning, so I went along about 9am, the box office opened at 10. When I arrived, the queue went up Hyde Road almost to...

    I don't get arena gigs

There's not really a lot you can do about it. An act that can sell 100,000 tickets in a few hours is not really going to want to play a venue like a theatre that only holds 1500, even though the show would be a lot more intimate.

    Liam Gallagher tours "Definitely Maybe"

No doubt it will sell out quite easily, but I think I'll pass, unless Noel gets onboard. I did see them at Old Trafford (Cricket ground), that was pretty good I seem to remember.

    Lifestyle & retirement

I'm 70 and only just retired, but it was my own business, so a bit different, and the last few years I have only been working reduced hours. I am in decent health, so hope to go a good while yet. A good mate of mine (and Bill Walkers) just dropped dead last year aged 69, and he was as fit as a...
