Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

What was it Foggy called you for stealing his year? A weasel? I’ve got a bit about the Satellite to Stax name change in my forthcoming write-up, but a quick check reveals that it was 1961 that this occurred, so fair play to you! I’ve also got a bit about Kennedy’s moonshot speech but that was...

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Just a reminder that when the vote closes on this week's album, we'll be taking a break on this thread until the new year. We'll have a new album to review on 8th January. As I'm off to Spain tomorrow, Coatigan is going to collect any votes from here and do the round-up tomorrow afternoon...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

Thanks to @mrbelfry for getting us underway with his write-up for 1960, and thanks for maintaining the playlist. Thanks to everybody who contributed a song and got involved in the discussion. As has already been noted, we are still in an era where novelty singles are jostling with records by...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

It’s definitely a mixed bag at this stage. Like you say, nothing you’d recognise as rock but definitely the beginnings of a soul sound.

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Every Picture Tells A Story – Rod Stewart For the second consecutive week, we have a British institution to review. The title track features a satisfying acoustic opening and the chime of the acoustic in the left ear throughout is a satisfying sound as the song goes full steam ahead, with Rod...

    Prostate cancer

Sorry to hear this. I guess you have to trust the doctors - if they think that the treatment will make you worse, given your other conditions, then not having the hormone therapy/radiotherapy is probably the right decision. Take care of yourself.

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Enthusiasm, a passion for music and a willingness to get discussing albums are the prime requirements on here. Having a thick skin helps as well, but language skills are a nice bonus :)

Think you’ve tagged the wrong Saddleworth there. Do you want me to add you to the list of nominators?

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Thanks for sharing this. It's good to get input from somebody who listened to the album when it was new. It's something that comes up often in this thread: the fact that there's no possible way that everybody who isn't familiar with an album can get as much out of it as the nominator, or...

No, you’re all good, mate. At most it was a little bit disrespectful to the nomintor, but we’re all friends here and I don’t think it’s a big deal. As noted, you took action before it was a problem and that’s to your credit. Don’t worry about it.

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

To be fair, mrbelfy’s review is fairly consistent with the others he’s done. I find reading them quite entertaining. He spent ages dissing War of The Worlds and then gave it a high score. Actually he wrote two opposite reviews of that album which was entertaining in itself. I was about to...

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Yes, I know where you are coming from there too. I do like the odd one, Michael Hutchence / INXS being the prime candidate, but generally I favour John Mellecamp's approach, as he sings in "Pop Singer":- Never wanted to be no pop singer Never wanted to write no pop songs Never had no weird hair...

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

An interesting take on Mr Stewart and his album, but I know where you're coming from. Having got into Led Zeppelin these last few years, thanks to discussions on these forums, I was dismayed reading Mick Wall''s When Giants Walked The Earth to find out what prize-one tossers most of the band...

    Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 28 - Coatigan - Instrumentals (pg 444)

Don’t worry, I will be doing :) No problem with it being here - just want you to know that it was one of the first songs on my list for 1962.

Stealing my thunder for 3 weeks time, damn you! But is is, of course, one of the best ever instrumentals.
