One for older Blues: Remember the CITY FC flag that used to fly at Maine Rd?

Totally agree. It’s proper MCFC heritage stretching back to Hyde Rd too!

One for older Blues: Remember the CITY FC flag that used to fly at Maine Rd?

Anyone remember the City FC flag that flew at Maine Rd from 1923 to 1960s? I’ve written this with images of it: https://gjfootballarchive.com/2025/05/28/the-city-fc-flag/ While we’re at it… When were the first seats installed on the Kippax at Maine Rd? It may actually be earlier than many...

Former Players Club: Once a Blue Project to Give Every City Player a Number Relative to Their Debut

They’re still verifying it. Understandably David & co are keen to get it spot on before releasing it. They’ve put some great work into it and it’ll be a great thing in the future when City give someone a debit and their number is given.

Former Players Club: Once a Blue Project to Give Every City Player a Number Relative to Their Debut

David White & co have done an excellent job here and they have been chatting to me about it for some time. I supplied material but this is definitely their work and initiative which I support entirely. Great work.

Waterstones - Anyone know Any Staff?

It’s more that the quantity is low. People will always find the Utd or City books but the Corinthians book is more of a ‘browsing’ purchase. People need to see it because they won’t go into a shop and think ‘I wonder if there are any new books on the Corinthians?’ In the way they might about...

Waterstones - Anyone know Any Staff?

I could really do with some help contacting staff at Waterstones who can help get Manchester Corinthians: The Authorised History stocked. The book is about a group of Manc women who toured the world playing football when the FA ban on women’s football was in force. They won many trophies...

    Substitute cubed +

City did a sub squared in our last league game: Savinho substituted for Bernardo Silva at 58 minutes then by Foden 76'. Off the top of my head can’t think of a sub cubed but I’m sure it will have happened.

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Worst example (in terms of impact) is Leeds City. If that were to happen today then City have no hope! The club paid its players when it shouldn’t have and the directors were deemed not to have cooperated with the FA enquiry. They were the first club expelled from the league for financial...

Global Sport Soft Power Index - Worth noting to challenge ‘sportswashing’ argument!

This is well worth remembering when someone throws ‘sportswashing’ at you…. Some academic research has been undertaken showing how nations accentuate their ‘attractiveness’ through sport. In essence you could argue this means sportswashing. For those wondering…. The UAE is 21st behind Portugal...

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

What a load of baloney in that article! It took City 30 years to recover etc. City were not relegated because of any punishment and finished 1907-08 3rd in the League. They had 1 season in Div 2 (1909-10) until relegation in 1926. They were the best supported club in the league in 1910-11...

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

City have never been relegated for illegal payments. City have only ever been relegated for their on the pitch performances.

    Steve Fleet RIP

I’ve just posted an interview I did with Steve a few years back. It’s free to read and he talks about his City career in it: https://gjfootballarchive.com/2025/03/05/remembering-steve-fleet/

Etihad site and Utd’s Bank St

It was definitely something the council wanted and the decision ultimately was given to Fergie to make (seriously). It’s all in Manchester A Football History. A compromise plan by the council was for Utd to play European games there but remain at OT.

Etihad site and Utd’s Bank St

Newton Heath became part of Manchester in 1890. They were formed 12 years before in 1878. To be fair West Gorton wasn’t part of Manchester either until 1890. A few people have brought this up on my social media accounts recently. Key thing to point out to any Utd fan who tries to go on about...

Etihad site and Utd’s Bank St

Yes, I talk about this in Manchester A Football History and include the story from an interview I did with Graeme Stringer. He talked of Fergie’s involvement. Manchester A Football History is one of the books that subscribers to my website can download PDFs of. See...

Etihad site and Utd’s Bank St

I’ve posted a comparison map which can be slid from one side to the other to show the site of the Etihad Stadium today and then how it was back in 1910 when Utd’s ground was nearby. You can see it here: https://gjfootballarchive.com/2025/03/01/uniteds-bank-street-and-citys-etihad-then-and-now/
