    Phone Thread

I have a Huawei P10 on the local 4G network, works well and the camera is very good. It has an excellent GNSS that works on GPS, Glonass and Beidu systems simultaneously, it also has Galileo capability. I've had this since August but I still prefer iOS to Android, maybe a matter of what I'm used...

    Emigrating Abroad

Interesting, I wasn't sure where Hohhot is, TBH but I've just had a quick look on Wikipedia. How far from Baicheng are you? I go there every so often to visit the mother in law. I'm currently in Shijiazhuang so it's a bit of a walk from here! P.S. the local 'Bavarian' BBQ does 3 litres for...

40th anniversary of Marc Bolan's death 16th Sept

Bolan was good, indeed. However, he modelled himself on Syd Barrett, so much so that he walked into the Pink Floyd management office one day saying he wanted a contract and that he wanted to be like Syd Barrett. There's a piccy of Syd on the cover of 'A Nice Pair' (1975? re-issue of the first...

    Emigrating Abroad

I left UK in 1997 to work in Saudi, that was working overseas with trips back to UK around every four months to see the kids. I'll cut a long story short(ish), got divorced in 2003, left the job in Saudi in 2004, went to work in Syria for a short while (before that place turned to shit) and when...

    "Smart" homes

Before I left UK I fitted the old fella's house with WEMO wifi light bulbs and a couple of cameras. He had recently departed from this world and I had been left with the responsibility of looking after the place until we sold it. The reason for the WEMO stuff was that I was at work from early...

    Going Abroad on your own

Do it, just do it, you won't be alone for long. Having said that, I'm sat on my own at this very moment... I won't be alone for much longer ;)

New PL TV deal in China

Ne hao! Ne hao ma? Looks like the 30 quid a year subscription that allows me to watch City and whoever City are playing will be going up a tad... All I can hope for is that next time City come to town, the locals sort out the pitch beforehand.

    Girl cryogenically frozen

Yep, I see cryogenics as the modern day equivalent of 'Snake Oil'. I was reading something recently (can't remember where, been researching a lot of IoT and big data stuff lately) about 'the singularity', the point when AI becomes a reality. The scientists involved are expecting the singularity...

It's time to buy a new TV

I paid around £700 for my 58" 4K Hisense a year ago, but I don't live in the capitalist west ;)

West Brom - post match thread

Hiya EB!, As you know, I'm a long way from home now. However, my brief sojourn back in Sunny Salford allowed me to meet your good self, may I say that it was a pleasure to meet such a devoted Blue, keep the faith!

    Identity Theft

If anyone is concerned about how much of their identity is available on line, try googling your own name. Once you have done that, look up on line security. Have a nice day :)

It's time to buy a new TV

I mean the TV uses the Android operating system, I can access piccys, movies etc., from my NAS box directly on the TV. You'd have to look at the UK specs for freeview etc., they do have local support in the UK and I'm sure that freeview would be built in for that market. Here in China I have a...

It's time to buy a new TV

I have a 58" Hisense TV here, I bought it around a year ago and it's a very good android TV, picture quality is spot on. They have been getting very good reviews around the world for a while now. The build quality is very good too.

Russia launches massive nuclear war training exercise that 'involves 40 million people'

I'm guessing that I am of a similar age to yourself? 3rd of September here is 'Victory over Japan day', all the sirens are fired up at the same time. The first time I experienced that event I was thinking ohhhh fuuuuck! Being 30 minutes flying time from the North Korean nut job didn't help.
