The Album Review Club - Week #119 - (page 1405) - People On Sunday - Domenique Dumont

Good to see you back in here, mate. Hope things stay settled at home. As for this week's loss - I thought after last season that if we didn't win anything this year, I'd be quite content, as long as we were challenging. To go out to Real Madrid is no shame, even if we did get the better of them...

The Album Review Club - Week #119 - (page 1405) - People On Sunday - Domenique Dumont

People On Sunday – Domenique Dumont I’ll agree with @GoatersLeftShin on one thing here – this is not an album about individual tracks, it’s more about the overall feeling that the music evokes. There’s certainly not a lot of track-to-track variation, and despite what he says, he is becoming a...

Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2, Episode 15 - Reinvention & Renewal - threespires (pg 327)

By the time I get to the end of typing this, I will have decided which of the tracks from the fabulous Phantom Radio album by the Mark Lanegan Band I will select. I'm not familiar enough with the late Mr Lanegan's discography to say whether this is reinvention, but reading around, I'm led to...

The Album Review Club - Week #119 - (page 1405) - People On Sunday - Domenique Dumont

I don't think you need to be sorry. When somebody nominates an album like this, they aren't going to be looking at the scores, they are just hoping 2 or 3 people will get something out of it.

The Album Review Club - Week #119 - (page 1405) - People On Sunday - Domenique Dumont

Having had Pablo Honey foisted on me years ago by a colleague, I've never listened to another Radiohead album and am more than happy to go with the flow and accept they are crap on this small, but painful, sample.

Reminds me of some of the music that plays walking around EPCOT at Walt Disney World.

An interesting selection by @LGWIO that was received favourably, narrowly missing out on the hallowed '7' average but finishing in a respectable 26th position. Pacific Street by The Pale Fountains scored an identical record to Roxy Music - 14 votes at an average of 6.93. What's more we saw a...

I remember listening to one of their albums once and found it OK but not enough to investigate further.

I view it as a successful experiment that can't compete with his proper music. It's catchy in places, no doubt, but how can it be better than pianos, mandolins and story-songs? :)

Glad you like it. The second half of that album is very good in terms of something different.

Bruce Hornsby is turning out to be a good "go-to" artist on this playlist thread. In 2002, he put out the frankly bonkers album, Big Swing Face. This is an album that features hip-hop beats, lots of bass and electronica, and bizarrely most of it lands. "Take Out The Trash" - Bruce Hornsby

Just a quick note to say I'll be doing the round-up before lunch today as the next nominator wants to put up the next album at lunchtime.

As @Black&White&BlueMoon Town has pointed out, all of the details are on page #1. The table also lists the page number that each album is announced on, so you can see what others have written in their nomination. The general idea is that you are telling us why you are nominating an album and...

Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2, Episode 15 - Reinvention & Renewal - threespires (pg 327)

It’s almost a running gag getting a Rush nomination in here every week between a few of us, but yes, that’s a great song and a bit different to what came before.

You're joining at a good time - as we are only five nominators away from the end of the round, you should get a go before the end of May. So get your thinking cap on!

Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2, Episode 15 - Reinvention & Renewal - threespires (pg 327)

OK, I think I have something and it seems to have just fallen into my lap thanks to the great musical time machine ...... I bought the Big Moon Ritual album at a time when the US Masters was happening 11 years ago, and always associate it with the tournament, which is quite apt given that Chris...

Del Amitri? Not listened to much of Justin Currie's solo output, other than the few tracks that have made it onto the playlists.

That comment was referring to Black&White&BlueMoon Town's experience of listening to the Allsion Moorer album whilst off chasing the eclipse.

I'll probably struggle with this one. I like my artists to either stay the same or evolve slowly. Can't immediately think of anything suitable, so will have to concentrate on the song titles. Somebody like Bowie painting his face and saying "Look, Ma, I'm different!" doesn't do it for me.
