As Lovecity mentioned, Athletico Madrid are reportedly close to signing Negredo

I suspect Pellegrini might want to look at his squad in pre-season before deciding if he needs to buy

We don't really know how City are going to set up either.

Better to be pragmatic and work with what we have and find a formation that suits us best for the short term. In time we can change it

If he goes to Atletico Madrid that's must mean that Soldado isn't and would be available I believe he is the better striker of the two bu ti think either would be a good addition to the squad at the right money.

Valencia didn't make the Champions League so yes Soldado may well move.

Seen lot more of him than Negredo, and he is a very good striker.

However, if I were City now, I'd be pausing and allowing the manager to take stock of what he has

We bought 4 striker before bang bang bang and it was not thought out and they did not work together. And 2/3 years later we're still trying to unwind it

And 2 of them are still here and are the only options at the minute, unless you count Guidetti who would have as much league experience as a new striker.

Of course we'll sign a striker, and preferably before deadline day.

Have we completely pulled out of the race with Cavani?

Or are we playing the waiting game?

I can only reiterate what SB from the MEN has been saying for the last couple of weeks, that we are only interested in Cavani if the price decreases by a considerable amount,as this was a Bobby signing and since then Pelle is not an avid fan.

Negredo seems highly underrated here.

1) He is a top 5 striker from the last 2 seasons.
2) As a pure striker he has been better (i.e. more productive) than any we currently have or had the last 2 years. Yes that includes Tevez, Balotelli and even Aguero.
3) If the top 5 strikers this year are:
Falcao, Suarez, Van Persie, Cavani, Ibra

Negredo, Kiebling, Soldado, Lewandoski, Martinez are the next level of talent. Certainly good enough for City, and a CLEAR upgrade on Tevez as a striker.

So the above 10 are superior to much more popular names like Jovetic, benzema, Higuain, Torres, VIlla, and a bunch of other names being bandied around. Simply put, these are more productive players of recent..

Negredo will be an upgrade on Tevez. He or Soldado will be fantastic buys.

Negredo will be no better than Dzeko and he has hardly set the prem on fire. We need to stay clear of Negredo, not good enough.

Kiesling is the same, just cannot see him doing it for us although he scored goals for fun last season. Soldado would be class for us and would be a very smart buy and Martinez looks promising, bit of a pwoerhouse with pace, always a good attribute to have.

Superior to Jovetic, Benzema and Higuain in what way?

Jovetic isn't even an out and out striker and if we bought him, he would be used as an inside forward/winger/attacking midfielder and not as a striker. Would be an excellent buy considering we missed out on Isco.

Higuain and Benzema are far better than Negredo which is why they are at better and bigger clubs. Higuain would be a good signing for us, a better signing than Negredo. A tidy finisher who is far better technically than Negredo and is a proven goalscorer both domestically and internationally.<br /><br />-- Tue Jul 02, 2013 3:57 am --<br /><br />

LOL at people wanting us to sign Negredo.

From Balotelli and Tevez to Negredo.

NO THANKS.

Why are people happy with us buying this calibre of player when Arsenal are fighting hard for quality strikers like Higuain? Shouldn't we be interested in him instead? After all we are a much bigger proposition than Arsenal.

Last season we had better strikers than the likes of Juve and Bayern. However, they were clearly better than us. It's about building a team and getting the best out of the players.

Exactly my point. Negredo doesn't fit into our highly technical side. He has the same first touch as Dzeko and isn't exactly mobile either, not good enough.

Higuain and Soldado on the other hand are. Proven goalscorers with a lot more attributes to their games. Far better signings for us.

but how is Higuain a better goalscorer when he scored 19 goals last season compared to Negredo's 31 even though Higuain made more apps last season and plays in a far superior team? Even Soldado scored one less and Valencia are arguably better than Sevilla.

Higuain comes off the bench most weeks though, he isn't even the 1st choice striker.

This is how you sound:

"But how is Aguero a better goalscorer when he scored 12 league goals last season compared to Rickie Lambert's 15 even though Aguero plays in a far superior team?"

Higuain is miles ahead of Negredo.
