100% happens more today but we used to do in North Stand at Maine Road most at home games. You could be right about the age thing but it still strikes as odd to me and I cannot remember it like that from my 20s. In fact we used to get on the Kippax 1:30ish and start singing.
It was a decent atmosphere on Saturday (not as good as last year) but walking back for the start of the second half there was absolutely hundreds having a sing along on the concourse, smoke bombs going up, fans stood on the central table dancing. The other side of the wall were going for the title.
Not knocking anyone who has travelled all that way, but great if we could give all that energy to the team.
Been watching City since 1975 and started going on my own 80/81 season fucking great times before I started behaving like an adult in my 30’s ( still refuse to grow up though) our gallows humour is and will always be our pride. Getting twatted on and off the pitch from time to time was all part of the fun and singing we never win at home and we never win away was always a big part of the day. Just summed us up and still does. Love to hear it sung now.
Love watching the youngsters enjoying every moment of it all. Lucky bastards the lot of them. Wish they didn’t take as many drugs as they do but, who am I to be critical - I still think Holts bitter should be free on the NHS!
Awooooooo
Yes fair arguments mate and with set seats its difficult for like minded groups to congregate, so I suppose the concourse is the best place for that. They would take that energy off the concourses and into the stands if they could have a beer in their seats (argument for another day) let them have their fifteen minutes of fun, where there’s no jeopardy involved, friends can stand/group together, have a a sing song and revel in a nightclub atmosphere. A lot of it stems from the Yaya/Kolo chant, I’ve heard that sung on student nights & nightclubs in random places up & down the country, with barely a City fan in sight

Wait ‘till you find out that the bar didn’t shut at all from before the game until into the second half and at least one group didn’t make it off the concourse all game.
Gone are the days where you got in there early with your mates, claimed your spot and tested the echo under an old corrugated roof, and proceeded to build up an atmosphere well before a game, you could feel the buzz & crackle of a big game well before kick off, the kind only unreserved standing produced. Anyways, them days are gone, but like you I wish they’d take it back out into the stands & not traipse back to their seat 10 mins into the second half (we’ve all done it) I only hope all the extra facilities on offer outside the ground don’t make it worseYes fair arguments mate and with set seats its difficult for like minded groups to congregate, so I suppose the concourse is the best place for that.
My mind takes me to Portman Road reading that.Gone are the days where you got in there early with your mates, claimed your spot and tested the echo under an old corrugated roof, and proceeded to build up an atmosphere well before a game, you could feel the buzz & crackle of a big game well before kick off, the kind only unreserved standing produced. For me this sums up the chants limits whilst the Awooooo is in it, I'm sure on the tram in the pubs and on the concourse it's rocking, it just doesn't transfer to the stands. Before the dips home game there were a few lads on the tram singing the song, on the awoooo bit virtually all the tram joined in. To me, it makes the song, it's daft, funny and just so City.
