1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

You come across as an immature spoilt and expectant new fan. If so read up our history and what we were like before all our post takeover success. Our past is educational to those who were too young, weren't born or those that don't don't know.

I can name at least half a dozen established ex City goalie's who were all older than Trafford with far more experience yet far less talent, and they didn't get better, they got worse! But we put up with them because we couldn't sign top class players back then for several reasons.

James Trafford is still very young for a keeper and still inexperienced at this level, vut unless he plays against the better sides we won't know how food he is. But some of the stick he's getting from his blunder yesterday are typical of certain posters who should know better than post derisory comments after two fuckin' games between the sticks!: /

It would be better if these old fans stopped pissing contest, year-by-year becomes more ridiculous.

Manchester City won the treble 2 years ago, 4 PLs in a row, Rodri won the BallonDor.
That's the standard and the resources our owners are putting in, means that we should compete for all the titles. Which means that you need best players to achieve that.

As a fan you should look what your club is capable of, what's the maximum and therefore - ask for that.

And payroll budget City has, is the biggest, therefore we should have the best players, not some average ones.

Trafford isn't the best. He isn't even better than our second GK - Ortega.

And yes, even one game, even one mistake is enough in a big club to loose your place permanently.

Kalvin Phillips ? How many chances he received ? He had better background, way better background than Trafford has but Pep looked at him once and it was enough, he knew that Kalvin was shit.

Delusional people want Pep to give Trafford 10-15-20 games to prove himself and forget that we don't have luxury for that, as we are fighting for the title and our goal isn't to become a middle table team, that grows or develops some local talents / players.

No...
You are either best and that's it or you go to bench and become the best via training.
City has no luxury to develop players and experiment game-by-game, waiting when Trafford makes another shitty performance.

As N2 GK no problem, but as N1, that will be the stupidest decision ever made by Pep.

Bad day at the office and it was horrible to watch. Shit it every time he got the ball with his feet. Was lucky when he came rushing out as well which could and probably should have been a red card but apparently the Spurs forward handballed it first. Made a few decent saves which was a positive, hopefully his confidence hasn't suffered much as Brighton next up will be another tough test.

Big learning curve for Pep because we can't continue to do this without a keeper like Ederson, something has to change.

Unless Donnarumma joins early this week I believe he'll keep his spot.

I think if Ederson isn't sold by that time, Pep will start Ederson...
Plus Ortega is also available.

Pep's answer to reporter why he started Trafford against Spurs was: "he had good game against Wolves and that's why".

So I guess now he will make change.

Trafford is not the problem.

The real problem is Pep's insistence on Ederson style tactics when Ederson is not in the side. We've tried to replicate it with Bravo, then Caballero, then Steffen, then Ortega, now Trafford.. with a little bit of Muric.

Eddie is the one constant from the Kompany/ Aguero/ David Silva era to the 4 in a row era and the now era. And our CB's have gotten comfortable with him bailing them out.

So either we keep Ederson as #1 or we learn to play a different way because no one on the planet can do what Ederson does.

Yesterday Ruben and Stones both passed to Trafford's LEFT FOOT when he's right footed which slowed our play even more and caused Spurs press to get even more dangerous.

And FFS what is the point of playing a square pass from a goal kick 6y across your own goal to a keeper not named Ederson?

All that massive experience and Ruben did that.. Absolutely suicidal! It's fucking mental! Totally braindead move!

Did we not learn from Stones's pass back to Steffen in the FA Cup semi-final vs Liverpool or Nunes pass vs Bournemouth or the Foden square pass vs Arsenal last year.

It's like the team has a collective muscle memory.. OH EDERSON IS THERE!

Trafford is not the problem..

The problem is the system doesn't work with anyone not named Ederson!

Oh and their keeper cocks up worse than Trafford but Haaland can’t pass it five yards to Cherki for a tap in! Stones free header too!

The problem isn’t our keeper. It’s us not taking our chances.

You only need to ask: if Trafford became Liverpool’s number 1, how would you feel?
I’d be fucking delighted.
So much for supporting our players. It was one game and one pass, in his first start for us.

Why write off one of our players already? I presume when Ederson made a bunch of mistakes in his first season you said the same?

He’s a young keeper with loads of potential and clearly the club can see that. Shame you can’t already.

ANOTHER weird thread!
Two PL games, at 22, and had a tough one.

He is steeped in how we play the game and anyone who watched the academy knows he can use his feet, and knows he is good with his hands.
He just had a bad game, and knows it. If he is still having them in two years then okay, but I am confident he won't be.

No! If a player makes one mistake on there home debut they should be sold.

Cherki didn’t have his best game, so I think we should sell while we can.

Some of our so called fans have the lost the plot and reading some of these posts is making me think wtf had happened to our fanbase.

But he stuck with Bravo long enough and he saved shit as in saved fuck all not saved shit as in saved loads :-)

No point in piling onto Trafford, his lack of skill with his feet was quite obvious before we bought him.
His part was awful of course but so was the braindead pass to him.
He's not ready to be our No-1 just yet but hopefully he will be in time, he needs time to work on his feet.
This thing with Ederson and people saying he's unique, why haven't we paid him what a vital player usually is then ?

Yep, people often look at it like it's entirely down to the passing ability of the keeper himself, when in reality, being able to pass out effectively has just as much to do with the movement and understanding between players. I noticed it too, that players kept passing to his left foot, which comes from 9 years of playing with a left-footed keeper and then suddenly changing. Likewise, the goal came from Trafford's poor passing choice more than his poor execution. He passed to someone who was under pressure, and even a perfect pass in that situation isn't going to be great. Don't get me wrong, if he had Ederson-levels of technique, he might have been able to get out of the situation through pure skill, but plenty of keepers manage to pass it out from the back without being Ederson. The problem we have is that if we start to allow him to play the long ball, as he increasingly was later in the game, it will get less and less effective as defenders will be ready for it. One of the things that makes Ederson's long balls so effective is that he hardly ever does them.

But yeah, you'd hope that this aspect will improve the more he trains and plays with the same players. The bigger worry was his incredibly poor judgement in the sweeper keeper role. He got away with it too many times, and that will come to bite us if we rely on him in that role.

Take the rough with the smooth pal. Wish for the best by all means but if you expect it you’ll be pissed off with a lot of things for a lot of the time.
Time will show the Pep years as some of the greatest in football history, anywhere, ever.
Fuck all we can do about it anyway!

Anyone wanting this kid over an elite keeper needs to give their head a wobble.

He seems the billy big bollocks kind of guy. Only time will tell if he's another Pickford. I hope he bounces back from his mistake but there's just to bigger drop off from an elite keeper for this to work long term...

The irony being Ederson has made that mistake against spurs twice and cost us goals rushing out every season too, even in a champions league final.
