1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

Khusanov makes a mistake and city fans in the main say he’s young, he needs time to develop and we back him to come back.

So called city fans, particularly online already writing him off after one game and one pass.
Difference being a mistake for a goalkeeper usually means conceding a goal.

Khusanov has done many great things through his play, even if he makes a mistake in a game again he has 90 mins to do more positive things to make up for it.

With goalkeeper being a reactionary position you simply cannot afford to allow players to learn on the job there. Especially if you want to compete for the title. The concern around Trafford is fully justified imo.

will be honest this also looks strange, like the way he is leading with his feet, then ball bounces off of his hand kind of outside the box. may have been a lucky escape to be fair or a red.. would not like if Onana, Allison does this vs Haaland and we dont get a decision. well we didnt get any when Henderson did what he did the final lol. :)

Might had suited us if he had got sent off as we could have rallied and won a point. This was before the 2nd goal debacle I think and you would fancy Eddie not to give away that goal. However, I think Trafford should be given some breathing space writing him off after one howler would be unfair.

It's an open question whether or not he'll improve. There's plenty of potential in Trafford's game - but no way, for me, that he should be our first choice keeper at this time.

I don’t disagree with that at all, Donnarumma comes in and he’s automatic #1. What I do disagree with are the twattish knee jerk comments that we always see after a loss. I’d much rather point out that the whole team were wank rather than see individuals targeted.

Spot on. Every player was a weak link yesterday. Singling individuals out after that performance is totally unreasonable.

Trafford's problem wasn't that mistake, he was unconvincing for whole game.
Panicking a lot, making wrong decisions, etc.

He is a boy, we need a man, professional player.

How can you win a premier league with a championship player. Just look at him and his body language and you understand that he isn't ready. I have seen better young GKs and better performances during these years. That Bazunu or Muric, they were stronger physically and more relaxed and convincing.

I don't even know where this nonsense came out that he should be our N1, how people even dare to think about that.

Ederson was going to be our N1.
Then this Donnarumma story began.

What indicates that he should be n1 ?

Accept being n2 and yep, if you were better you wouldn't be playing for Burnley and learn, improve yourself.
Just because he is from City academy doesn't mean shit.

I remember when Burnley first signed him, he made so many mistakes that they moved him to bench.
Championship isn't the level to be considered.
So Burnley benched him and people want him to be N1...

Only quality matters.
Trafford right now isn't better than Orgeta and comparing him to Ederson is blasphemy

Fills home-grown quota like Betinelli and that's it.
As a n1 we need elite GK either Ederson or Donnarumma..

He made a bad choice. Tottenham's pressing wasn't even executed well. On this goal, it wasn't a question of good or bad ball at his feet, he just made the wrong decision. Even a bad goalkeeper would have played it safe with Stones on his right, wide open. A goalkeeper with a good pass would have tried to find Bob.

Unless he had strict instructions to come out through the middle, and that's the responsibility of the coaching staff, and Pep in particular.

Donnarumma isn't great with his feet, and PSG chose to play the ball out to the wings, via the center-backs who spread out as soon as possible, or to the full-backs. Hakimi and Mendes, who bring the ball out cleanly and do it very well.
Even Ederson made the same mistake two years ago against Tottenham with a dubious ball to Rodri, but Mahrez was there to save us and turn things around in the second half. We need to abandon those risky passes through the middle and direct the ball to the wings.

Made a big mistake, but it was possibly the last reason we lost that game. Would like to see him continue on starting if Ederson is on the outs, not like he didnt make some pretty large mistakes as well as noted above..

I don't think the plan was ever for him to be first-choice keeper this season, but the Ederson/Donnarumma situation has seen him start the first few games. Assuming that gets resolved one way or another this week, then Trafford will be on the bench and out of the spotlight next Sunday. I'm sure he'll have a big future for us, but needs to be eased into it rather than dropped in at the deep end.

Disappointed in Trafford yesterday, did well against Wolves and I thought he would be careful and sensible yesterday to build on that. I felt the opposite happened though. Nearly got charged down by Richarlison in his box early on, could have been sent off for that ill timed charge out and of course, should have kicked that ball away well before the bad pass led to their 2nd goal.
However, he did well in the second half and made some decent saves so that shows a bit of character? Could have folded after that 1st half shit show but held it together well 2nd half.

You come across as an immature spoilt and expectant new fan. If so read up our history and what we were like before all our post takeover success. Our past is educational to those who were too young, weren't born or those that don't don't know.

I can name at least half a dozen established ex City goalie's who were all older than Trafford with far more experience yet far less talent, and they didn't get better, they got worse! But we put up with them because we couldn't sign top class players back then for several reasons.

James Trafford is still very young for a keeper and still inexperienced at this level, vut unless he plays against the better sides we won't know how food he is. But some of the stick he's getting from his blunder yesterday are typical of certain posters who should know better than post derisory comments after two fuckin' games between the sticks!: /

Will learn masses from today.
Haven't we all. He's never going to be able to play in Peps way.
If Pep doesn't adjust our game to suit the keeper, we're fucked.
There's no escaping the fact that the lad's a pure number one. Expecting anything else is like waiting for a rocking horse to take a shit. Never going to happen.
