1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

Yeah agree. Ortega was ropey last season so not a big risk but Ederson is still no 1 all season for me with Trafford playing in the cups and the odd game. It is possible he may not be number one after Ederson goes either as we may buy someone.
If he’s not number one after Ederson leaves then he needs to leave and he’s wasted two years of development.

It was his first game, of course he’s going to be nervous. He’s also a young keeper so we need to be patient with him.

There’s no point comparing distribution with Ederson as no one in world football is as good. He’s a different keeper, with different qualities.

Starting to think after he makes one mistake all the vultures on bluemoon will circle and write him off instantly

I think he will be a great keeper once he settles his distribution down. He was playing some tight short passes yesterday and they were pressing. It was almost like he was testing himself so he has bravery. Watch most teams press hard and fast against him until he gets used to the pace. Once he gets through that phase he will be a great asset. I have zero doubts about his shot stopping ability. He will make a mistake or two that is inevitable.

He was obviously nervous & looked to me the player i saw at Burnley, fine keeper but not great with his feet.
I don't think he's ready to take over just yet but it's still very early days & he will improve as the season progresses

His distribution isn’t Ederson levels, yet, however he looks just as unfazed by incoming attackers pressing him when playing it out from the back. He’ll only get better at it with time, but I actually think he’s probably as good as it gets after Ederson at that in world football.

But also a commanding presence on the line.
I thought it was a good performance with a slightly nervous opening - probably what you would hope for, but also what you would expect.

Exactly. It’s one game, which was a friendly. He looked good to me

He is excellent with his feet and has been since being in our academy. There’s no point in comparing to Ederson, as no one is as good with the ball

very young for a keeper, haven't seen anything of the game last night but he will get better and better hopefully, mad thinking he could be our keeper for the next 15 or so years

Certain people are quick to compare Trafford’s distribution to Ederson’s but not his shot stopping.

Interesting.
No keeper has Edersons distribution, no keeper in the history of the game can pass a ball as he does so it's very unfair to say that James can't pass a ball like Eddie.

He's a better shot stopper than Ederson but so are many keepers, his distribution needs to improve though and i believe it will, just give him time

Well said. What’s the point in judging and comparing traffords distribution to Edersons. There isn’t a keeper in the world as good with his feet.

We need to accept when Ederson leaves distribution out the back won’t be the same. We’ll probably have a better shot stopper though

Sorry, but I would have him in the side v Wolves already.

He has a ‘presence’ about him that even if we are caught on a counter attack, he will repel one on one’s with ease …. something Ede didn’t and doesn’t have.
