Not many people in the UK i know have read Mitch Albom, love his writing. Have you tried '5 people you meet in heaven', absolutely lovely book.

I've read 5 people you meet in heaven. Thought it great.
Tuesdays with Morrie less so.

Shadow of the Wind is a great book too.
