Too slow. Keep him in bench. If only we were still in Carabao I’d start him there.

There isn’t even any redeeming strengths, like a freekick taker or a good header or mazy runs or byline. Gets fouled alot, but playing for City who doesn’t?

All the stats shared here means nowt. Seeing with my own eyes. Nothing stands out and a lot of unlearn relearn work needs to be done.

But ho hum we spent a fortune on him so we are desperately wanting him to be good and deliver each time he plays.

It's hard to see what he is offering the team right now as nothing he does is anything more than ordinary. No real pace, no chances created, no goals scored and not a particularly high work rate.

You'd hope that this isn't it and at some point he will start to show why the club invested so much for him.

I'd argue Mahrez has been an excellent signing overall. Scores lots of goals (better goalrate than he had for Leicester), some of them really important, and he's slotted into our system very well. He has the occasional off day but that's the risk you take for his strengths. And yet, quite a lot of people still have a massive problem with him and don't think he's worth it. He's done well in an understated way, not exactly kicking any doors in, so there will always be people who miss his value and spot his flaws. My point is, over time, Grealish will slot into our system like Mahrez has and look far more comfortable, but unless he kits De Bruyne/Bernardo levels, there will always be people who won't rate him. Does that mean he won't have been a good signing?
Agree with everything you’ve said re mahrez but I don’t agree with you on grealish. Mahrez at Leicester was consistently influencing games with goals and assists and played a huge part in them winning the league. Grealish is basically a right footed version of mahrez without the goal threat.

He is a very good player but is miles away from Bernardo, mahrez, foden, kdb, gundogan and I’ve seen nothing for villa, England or city to think he will ever reach their levels. Not sure why pep is so insistent on starting jack, if I was mahrez I would be throughly pissed off. Had a great season last year and is our second top scorer yet seemingly is second choice to a player who currently offers very little.

In the past we got very lucky with United over paying for our targets such as Sanchez, maguire, Fred etc. Shame United didn’t fancy doing the same for grealish

I saw a lot of villa games last season and grealish was outstanding. One of the best players in the premier league.

You have to give him a free role though and let him take on players.

Pep won't do that so your never going to see the best of him. He won't improve much playing in the restricted role he plays. I think the next manager will bench or sell him on.

Good lord! Are we about to rewrite that which makes a midfielder a midfielder? is that what we are really doing now? Are we about to rewrite the relevance of goals and assists in football just to accommodate Grealish? would we be this lenient if he played for the rags or if that was Sancho's stats? This Grealish "fever" has totally gotten out of control! For a player who has contributed absolutely nothing I don't see why everyone's willing to turn a blind eye to his abysmal performances! Palmer has been a better player and has contributed far more than Grealish. Let that sink in!
Read my earlier posts in the thread, love.

I’ve been pretty critical of Grealish and given plenty of reasons why.

But “good lord” when did goals and assists become the best way to judge a midfielder?!

“Assists” only started getting recorded in England in about 1995 when Fantasy League started. Was there no way of judging a good midfielder pre-1995? Lol

Gabriel Jesus has more assists than Bernado this season, shall we take that as proof Jesus has performed better because assists are quantifiable?

Grealish has performed poorly because he slows the team down and often doesn’t play the right pass at the right time. There’s more to judging a player than stats.

It's not the only thing, it's just a rough guide to how much they're contributing. I mean, I'm generally pro-Grealish thus far, so if you want bring things like "key passes" into the equation then I'd be happy to, because Grealish is outperforming every other City player in that area:

What are the stats on him slowing the teams tempo, picking the wrong pass, missing players runs, playing too safe, upsetting our balance, mate?

He needs to also sort his personal shit out. Running about like a celebrity spice boy is alright when you do the business on the pitch. He's a bit like a pound shop Beckham at the moment. Hope he gets his head focused and proves everybody wrong. Wouldn't put my house on it.
