Good first half along with most of the team.
Faded second half and didn’t really get in the game.

Not going to bother reading the posts that have been added since Saturday as I’m sure there going to be the same posters calling him shit and a waste of money and I can’t be arsed with stupid today.

In an interview he gave when he joined us, he said he saw himself as an 8 or 10 capable of playing on either wing and willing to give the false 9 a go. He also said he'd spoken in depth with Pep about positions, and he seemed positive about that so I'm guessing Pep didn't tell him he wasn't going to get a chance to play in his preferred position.

And a couple of years ago he was making it clear that he saw himself as a midfielder:

And before we bought him there were numerous sources suggesting Guardiola wanted to rotate him with Gundogan:

This article makes an interesting argument for adapting him into a 6. I don't think I agree with the conclusion, but the analysis of his strengths is worth a read.

When Ole wanted him at united, the plan was apparently to make him a right-winger:

Transfermarkt stats show that for the 5 seasons before he joined us, he played multiple positions, but only in the past 2 seasons did he play more on the left than centrally (we also know that especially during those past two years, his role included a lot of freedom, including to drop deep and move infield).

Most of his time centrally was spent in an "attacking midfield" position which, giving how Villa tend to set up, would probably have included little defensive work.

And playing midfield for Villa (especially in the Championship, which some of these seasons were) is not the same as playing midfield for City. The roles of our twin 8s are quite specialised and require a detailed understanding of how the team plays and familiarity with the other players and the team's style.

But it's simply not true to say he's not a midfielder or has never played in the middle.
exactly! good analysis. anyone who says he cannot play in midfield is simply exposing their lack of football knowledge

At this rate we could win the treble, have battered United home and away, and still spend all summer bickering about Jack Grealish.

Now Sterling is barely playing, the miserable fuckers from that thread seem to have picked here to set up camp and whine after every game.

It's one of those funny seasons where, outside Mahrez and Bernie, I don't think any of our midfield or attacking players are having a great season, but all are having a good season and I fully expect us to pick up a trophy or two. I'd count Grealish among them. Shows the standards they have set I suppose, and how hard they all work for each other.

Kdb is having a great season, low by his standards but still
