I wasn't writing him off. I just don't see why we bought him because if everyone is available he does not get in my side. Pick a starting XI. I bet he doesn't get in your side.
For a start we’re forced to buy English/Club trained players. Hence Stones, Sterling, Walker for silly prices at the time, Ake too. If an English player is available, and good enough to play, we buy them, despite there being better players on the continent.

I see Foden as a midfielder, and Sterling as a right winger/sided forward, I see Grealish as a left winger/sided forward and both Foden and Sterling can play there if they have to.

I think getting Grealish pushes Mahrez out and to me, that’s what the upgrade is.

………………………Rodri/Fernandinho

…………KbD/Bernardo………Gundogan/Foden

Sterling/Mahrez/Jesus/Bernardo………………
…………………………….Grealish/Foden/Sterling

……………………Torres/Sterling/Jesus/Delap

For me, Foden is primarily fighting with Gundogan to get back in the team once fit.

The possible departure of Silva was probably the reason we bought him.

Grealish has disappointed me with his performances. Nowhere near as effective as Foden, Bernardo, Mahrez and Sterling.

He may stand out for England but for me he doesn't get anywhere near my City first XI
Three games in. Christ.

He's brand new to the team, brand new to the system, and playing slightly out of position from where Pep wants him (he'll be moved centrally when Foden is back), yet he's still notched a goal and an assist in three games. Contributing to 2 goals every 3 games would give him a great return for the season.

Plus I think his work for Jesus' goal against Arsenal is exactly where he's going to be more productive than Raheem and Mahrez (two players I love more than most). He picks the ball up from Bernardo and drives right at the defender, squares him up in the penalty area, then puts it on a plate for Jesus. How many times has Raheem lost the ball from a similar position? How many times has Mahrez turned back inside and passed it to Rodri or back to Walker? He brings something different - a new way to unlock teams and put them on the back foot.

Give it more than a month, eh?

What's this about us having a consensus "strongest XI", by the way?

Ederson; Walker, Stones, Dias, Zinchenko; Rodri, De Bruyne, Gundogan; Mahrez, Jesus, Foden

That's probably our strongest XI in most peoples' eyes, but I could contest at least four positions in that team. Is Jesus our best #9, or Torres? Is Fernandinho more effective behind the midfield than Rodri? Is Sterling better on the right than Mahrez? Should Grealish be in over Foden or Gundogan? Is Cancelo a better left-back than Zinchenko? Is Laporte in better form than Dias or Stones at the moment?

The whole point is that we don't have a strongest XI, especially not further up the pitch. Teams with an established first XI tend not to win the Premier League these days, except for maybe Leicester in 2016 -- and even that was 5 years ago when City still had the phoenix on the badge. United have an established XI but they won't win the league this year because their "B-team" contains about 2 players who could fill the gap in quality.

United's established XI (when everyone's fit) is probably: De Gea; Wan Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Pogba, Fernandes; Sancho, Ronaldo, Greenwood.

That's a good team but, if they want to go deep in all competitions and win a couple of pots, who's going to step in and perform to the level of the rivals in their position? You could make a good case for Cavani and maybe Rashford on his day, but what about Dalot? Martial? Bailly? Lindelof? Fred? Van De Beek? There's no chance. Whereas Bernardo, Grealish, Laporte, Fernandinho - we know we can trust these guys to fill in when first picks are out injured.

honestly some people just have no vision and only see the here and now. the kid has signed a SIX YEAR contract and believe me, we will need him playing for us in the future. considering he’s only been here a month and he’s got a goal and assist, i think he’s more than proved why he’s going to be very instrumental in our future success.

He has been instrumental in our last two games,we have missed the influence of KDB and/or Foden and this lad has helped compensate for that, which was a huge factor in his purchase.
He is one of the first names on our sheet, for me.

Not sure what our players make of him yet, or if it's done on purpose, but there have been so many times he has unbelievable amounts of space, but they won't pass to him. More than once he has been frustrated by this, when the wrong ball was played to someone else.

The Norwich game in particular. My mate even said to me that Ilkay mustn't be Jack's mate.

Lol, he’s already a popular lad at the club.
