I personally don’t remember any of the guys you mention hitting the ground running; I may be misremembering, but I wouldn’t say any outfield player, at least, other than Dias has had a more obvious impact than Grealish.

In my estimation, the handful you mentioned were all good without ripping up trees, and I’d say Jack is there as well.

Granted, no-one else cost £100m, but others, who are now essential to our success, were far worse on arrival for 12 months. It’s a fair point though.

Ederson was great from the get go walker massively improved us in his first season. Laporte came in and slotted in straight away and i remember jesus doing very well when he first turned up pre injury.

No it's not, Mahrez was completely used to the league and so was Stones. There is a HUGE jump from literally any other team in the world to come and play under Pep, it's something that Cancelo couldn't get his head around and he's openly admitted it. The same goes for Mahrez, he is being asked to do so much more than he was expected to do and the pattern continues with Grealish. It was easier for Ruben because first and foremost he just needed to use his defensive & leadership skills and they are his best attributes. Grealish has slowly started to pick up, but it's going to take time for nearly anyone that joins the club, we just have to accept that.

I would disagree with that, I though he started very well, looked at home in this team and that takes some doing but as the season has progressed , he has gone backwards, that's the worry.

He had a superb game against the rags, looked aggressive and classy, I though that was the moment he kicked on, it sadly was the opposite.

Fully agreed, and I think Grealish has slotted in to large extent, in much the same way. He hasn’t set the league on fire but I feel he’s earned his place. Others won’t and that’s fine.

You’d think he was constantly losing possession and hindering our play the way some make out though. On the contrary I see him generally helping our buildup, and ball retention. Granted his “end product” isn’t where some expect it to be for a £100m player, and I’d be concerned if we get to this stage of next season and he’s not shown an uptick in production.

It is hard not to expect wonders from a record signing. The problem comes if he doesn’t start living up to his wages, not so much the transfer fee.

Stones - took a full season to look any good, was then dynamite for 6 months, had injury problems on and off for two years, now the best CB at the club in terms of ability and composure but can't stay fit for more than 10 games

Bravo - total crap as a #1, decent back-up as a #2, always a second away from committing a howler

Jesus - hit the ground running but dropped off a bit and hasn't ever been consistently been world class, has since become a valuable squad player that reactionary idiots on here seem to hate for some reason

Mendy - the less said the better

Laporte - was arguably the best CB in the PL for 18 months, then that injury to his knee happened, he's been pretty good since but never the same as he once was

And I'd say Grealish's overall performances have been better than Rodri, Cancelo, Mahrez and Bernardo's were in each of their first seasons, so there's evidence that he'll get even better.

Have you anything to back that up? Because Mahrez’s & Bernardo’s G&A output dwarfed that of Grealish. You know that in his first season Mahrez got 24 goals and assists? But also the more telling thing, both he a Bernardo had some real game changing/winning moments. To date, Grealish hasn’t.

It is interesting that it is taken for granted that our signings need a very long time to show their worth. Could it not be interpreted a different way? That is, the coach needed a very long time to turn them into the players that we thought we'd bought? If Grealish is great next season, it is not that Grealish took time to show his worth, but that Pep needed time to make him look good. Thanks to Pep, Grealish will be a better player next season, which is why he'll look better. Basically, we've overpaid for the vast majority of our transfers.
