And January/February 2022.
He keeps starting games and we keep winning them. Pep's teams don't tolerate passengers. Let's trust the boss on this. "He's doing the right things, just a bit slower than everyone else" is a good summation of his time here so far. Should have scored today but he was otherwise fine. Worked hard, troubled Azpi a lot in the second half. We've seen what a bit of confidence can do for Sterling's form. Grealish is getting there. Gradually, but he's getting there.
The Overton window has been completely shifted on him. When he came in it was a case of "Looks talented but needs to learn, let's see how he settles", but nowadays we get another 10 pages added to this embarrassing thread when he goes on holiday and another 30 pages when he doesn't produce a match-winning performance. A lot of people have planted their flag on him and will simply never budge now unless he becomes a bona fide legend, a la Jesus & Mahrez.
Jesus and Mahrez are both solid members of our squad now. Mahrez is top quality, Jesus has turned into a different kind of player to the one we were expecting but puts a big shift in and scores big goals. But on here you still get people questioning Jesus' value and unironically calling Mahrez "FFS". The same shit will follow Grealish around now, even as he settles in. He'll spend his peak years with us and win loads of trophies, but some will never convert.
Been having a look back at the games he's missed this season and how our performances have been in them.
Burnley (H) 2-0, average performance against a poor side
United (A) 2-0, excellent performance against a poor side
Everton (H) 3-0, good performance against a poor side
West Ham (H) 2-1, average performance against a decent side
Newcastle (A) 4-0, clinical performance against an average side
Leicester (H) 6-3, complete chaos
Arsenal (A) 2-1, poor performance but nicked it at the end
Norwich (H) 4-0, good performance against a poor side
Spurs (H) 2-3, the less said about this game, the better
Everton (A) 1-0, uncomfortable performance and nicked it at the end
I think we're starting to miss his presence more and more.
