Our Grealish fan boys aren't as vocal as they were, hmm. Maybe they too think he was underwhelming last season. I make it about 4 good months in 3 seasons, the rest of the time he's been average or poor. Thing that frustrates me is he can be a great player but he doesn't take chances and plays within himself most of the time and that's not enough to warrant starting games. If we keep him and he has another bad season he'll be hard to sell so I'd sell him this summer if we can get 50-60M.

I'm not a hater BTW, just saying it how I see it.

As often happens in player threads, unfortunately, sensible discussion is forgotten and left at the altar of polarisation. I am a City fan, so I support the players. I hope they do well, I hope they get over a loss of form, and I hope we support them until they leave the club.

Jack Grealish has had a loss of form, and he was dropped as a result. Prior to that he was an integral part of the most successful team the nation has seen. He performs the role that Pep asks of him or he wouldn't be repeatedly picked. He has control, balance, dribbling skills, some pace, defensive reliability, and is clearly a popular member of the group. Does it make me a fan boy to say these things? We have to recognise that every player in this side brings different things to the team:

When Bernardo plays on the wing, does he repeatedly skin his man, get to the byline and whip in delicious crosses or score beautiful goals? Isn't that what you want from a wide man?

Is Dias able to move forward and become the second midfielder, dictating play and allowing Rodri to become a goal threat?

Will Doku maintain possession and control to help to create the extra man in the central area?

Everyone contributes and, in my view, we support them to do that, especially if they've had a difficult time away from the pitch.

He did but his performances in the shirt were magnificent, in fact probably his finest run of form in his time with us which says everything.
Ive nothing bad to say about daveeed. He was awesome

Just saying that you said he ‘just got on with it’. He understandably didnt

You dont know how much the break in affected grealish. Thank fully we dont all have to just ‘get on with it’ these days

Not sure why you're using so many analogies to justify playing him.

"He performs the role that Pep asks of him or he wouldn't be repeatedly picked". He doesn't, and that's why he ain't getting regular starts. Pep has said several times that Jack needs to assist and score more. 3 goals and 3 assists last season is poor to put it mildly.

The analogies were about recognising that different players bring different things to the squad. For example, Bernardo clearly does not typify what people seem to demand of Grealish on the opposite wing. Rather, people recognise his attributes. Dias cannot do what Stones does, but people recognise his excellence in what he can do.

On current form, Grealish shouldn't be picked (and neither should KDB in my opinion), especially if he is not putting it in in training (as reported), but I ask that history not be re-written: he clearly has brought something to the squad and has been a part of the most successful period in our history - as fans I think we should recognise that and support him to hopefully return as a key part of the squad. I happen to think that he is more suited to a central role and anyone competing with Doku at his current rate of improvement has a job on their hands, as they should in elite sport.
