10 | Jack Grealish - 2024/25

Excellent performance. Got up and down the pitch really well, and was helping create space for others with his movement. So composed and solid on the ball he's exactly what we need in terms of controlling the tempo and ensuring we don't get overrun. Was good even in a deeper position. If he does get given the ball under pressure he's so good at protecting it or winning a foul, it's the ideal place for him to play given the injuries we have in that area.

First name on the teamsheet now, fixes loads of issues. Hopefully he can learn quickly on the job to get even better at it. His dictating of play was a bit one-dimensional because he sometimes is a bit hesitant to release the ball when doing it quickly is the right thing to do.

Kova-KdB-Grealish in the middle, with whoever is most in form of Bernardo(very good yesterday) and Foden out on the right and we actually look decent

Agree with all of this. He also got himself in some great positions in those little pockets that Phil exploited so much last season. If the lad just had a bit more confidence to ping a shot in every now and then, and grab a goal or two, we may see him move from being a good player to a great player. He scored some absolute peaches at Villa but seems so reluctant with us to pull the trigger. Hopefully Kev has a word with him to put aside his worries and go for it. If you don’t buy a ticket, you don’t win the raffle.
Solid performance, nothing outstanding but just what he, the team and we needed. Keep it up lad.

He played well, would love him to be more of a goal threat but he's only ever scored 20 odd Premier league goals in his whole career, he's not suddenly going to change

Just confused why it's taken so long to play him more centrally with the injury/loss of form situation.

A player who wants and needs the ball and a better player when he has.

I don't think Pep thought Jack had the intelligence to cope with what he asks for in the middle. Instead he gave him a really limited role with really simple instructions, where he didn't need a 360 degree view of the game.

I think Jack can cope with that, but Pep sees Jack all the time in training, so wouldnt argue either way really.

Maybe he couldn't do what's needed against the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern in that position, but he's certainly capable against most teams.

I doubt he's the first name on Peps teamsheet.

I thought he had a great game today and played some great passes but was able to hold on to the ball where a pass wasn't on
Great saving tackle in the penalty box.

Time will tell but for me he will never be a LW simply ineffective in terms of goals and assists.

If Pep can get him fired up in most games for me he will be a quality no8

I think Jack's issue has always been the fact he came from being the main man at Villa to one of a number of very talented players at City and the pressure of delivering has weighed heavy. He knows he needs goals and assists and he's put so much pressure on himself he's ended up playing with less freedom and allows himself to be affected when something doesn't come off, rather than keep sticking at it. Doku made the wrong decision so many times last night, but got a goal and assist so you can't fault his overall effort or performance. For Jack he'd make the wrong decision once and let it get to him. How many times does De Bruyne give the ball away or have a pass not find its mark? The key is to keep at it and forget about the mistake.

The benefit of him being in the middle is he sees the ball a lot more and can go and play a lot of good passes and build that confidence. He's definitely the best option for the middle of the park that we have at the moment and the burden on him getting goals/assists is reduced. He still needs to improve in that regard - Pep said as much - but if the team is winning and if we're keeping clean sheets then it doesn't matter as much.

Now thinking to next season.

It is hopefully obvious to Pep to transition Jack to the middle.

Meaning we need a backup LW for Doku.

I dont think that should be Nunes either.
