10 | Jack Grealish - 2024/25

I cannot answer that, in world football, I don't watch enough to pretend to know. All I know is that it ain't us right now. Brentford outplayed us for 50-60 mins at home ffs.
Wasn’t talking world football just P/L. Brentford played well but better ,no and not over the 6 games played.

They did out play us for 50-60 mins. We were bad against arsenal once rodri went off and before trossard was sent off. We were sludgy against inter. It's fine. We've been a bit shit the past 4 games. Chances are we'll work it out.

I said we were stop and go, but everyone is ,just saying I haven’t see anyone better over the 6 games.

No they didn't. They played really well for about 15 mins and then normal service was resumed. We finished the game with 54% possession, 18 shots to their 8, 12 corners to their 3. It wasn't domination from us but by the end we deserved to win 3-1 at least.

They really did. They controlled the game for that time. Stats or not stats I know what I saw. The last 30 we took control.

I disagree, he works harder than most wingers for the team, rarely ever gives the ball away, attracts multiple players to the ball which in turn opens up space and is always a safe outlet for other city players.

Yes he could do with more goals and assists but the players you named are nothing like what I’ve explained above regarding Jack. Some people just can’t see/refuse to acknowledge what he offers so they have this completely different standard of him.

That's my point though, no matter how hard Sterling/Jesus (or nearly any winger we've ever had actually) worked, we would all still quite rightly call out their goal/assist return as absolutely dreadful if it was on Jack's level. 11 goals and 12 assists in his time with us is shocking and the frustrating part is that it could be so so much more if he was playing at his best.

I don't have a huge problem with the fact that we use Grealish's workrate and ball retention skills to overlook his poor output - my problem is really with the fact that we didn't extend those guys the same leniency. Jesus Navas for example was maybe the hardest worker I've ever watched in a blue shirt other than Fernandinho, but most of the forum was calling him crap after a few seasons of barely ever producing returns. You're right that he brings players out of position which is extremely valuable but I feel he could do that and simultaneously be a sharper threat (Haaland for example is one of the best players I've ever seen at bringing players out of position but he also has a goal threat - not saying I expect Jack to be Haaland level but he has the talent to be much closer)

My thing with Grealish is that he's clearly very capable of scoring and assisting way more (I would personally say that he's one of the most talented players to wear the City shirt in my lifetime) but he doesn't do it nearly as often as he could. That assist yesterday for example was absolutely exceptional. He could/should be one of the best players in the league, way ahead of guys like Saka and Luis Diaz. And I don't personally buy the idea that Pep is hindering his ability to produce more. I think if he was consistently scoring or assisting he would walk into the side every single week because he's certainly a more talented player than Doku, but Pep often prefers Doku.

I absolutely do not hate Jack or even dislike him really, and I appreciate that it's one of the most divisive issues among City fans today, but that's where I personally stand on the issue. I do understand and respect the contrasting opinions though.

When he has fitness, confidence and drive (as he has this season so far), he creates an absolute shitload of chances.

I don't care how often he's the scorer, the assister, the assist before the assister, or just the bloke that the opposition double or triple up on because of his insane gravity and that opens up spaces elsewhere that other players exploit.

Whichever of those he's doing, he's doing the team a service and he's doing it well. He's a patient, selfless and positionally-disciplined player.

Like others, I think he could work on being much more clinical in front of goal when he gets those opportunities. He's clearly extremely technical and he should definitely be able to improve that area of his game.

Part of his problem I think is that he went through a dry patch and then got in his head so he shoots less, and when he does shoot he hesitates, and that makes his shots easier to block, and that provides a feedback loop telling him not to bother shooting. If he could relax, care a little less, and shoot instinctively when the opportunity arises, he would get a few more goals and that'd ease the pressure. Even if he could become just say a solid 10-goal-a-season player I think that'd ease some of the pressure, internally and externally.

But even without those numbers, when he's at his best he's incredibly important to how we play.

Really does hurt you when he plays and plays well doesn’t it.
I have been mildly critical of Jack in the past but am impressed with his start to the season. He looks lively and dangerous and if he can add a few goals to his game this might be a big season for him.

Really good when he came on against Arsenal and had a very good performance in the first half yesterday at Newcastle.

Faded a bit second half, but very good to see him playing positively.
