10 points - just remember this

Until shortly before the first goal went in at Munich, about 25/30 mins, we were
the better team.

We are out because of bad goalkeeping and defensive errors - very poor goals given away in Munich and Naples. We also had bad luck ( no early panalties in Munich; first goal in Naples), and some bad management decisions which came back to bite us when we least expected them (Tevez 'losing it' had been brewing with Mancini for 12 months; selection of Kolo Toure - after no games in 6+months - in place of Lescott in Munich; no Richards or Clichy in Naples). When all of these factors conspired, we lost 2 games.

The margins are very, very fine at the top level. Cut out the mistakes; don't miss the obvious; don't try to be too clever with team selection. Mancini will have learnt - I hope - and next season, most of those mistakes will not be capable of being repeated, and with an even stronger team and squad, we'll progress further.

Great shame about this season's campaign and it is still a failure, even if we did get 10 points from a tough group. It was inadequate. End of.

It would have won 2 of this years groups, it would have qualified in 6/8 groups, its more than "they" got (also in a group where a team got 0). We've done OK in the hardest group, its disappointing, but we've had worse weeks in our history :)

Best of all the media have a far better story than us not progressing this year.
For me that makes it worst in a way, cos we had enough points but didnt progress, the lads done what was needed but it wasnt enough this year.

We didn't have enough points though hence why we didn't qualify. Its a silly argument like losing 3-2 in a cup final and then saying well every other year 2 goals won you the cup

Like i said before its not the end of the world i had come to terms with it 2 weeks ago like most fans

Its a meaningless stat. 6 points against a team that ended pointless and 3 against a weakened team.

Finishing 3rd with 10 points is no better than finishing 3rd in a group where all four teams end up with 7-9 points.

I would give a reasoned reply but since amalgamating variables and factors to form a reasoned opinion seem not to be your forte ill just say...

lol
Why would you laugh at him?

His post is spot on.

All down to one goal at the Etihad v Napoli. Whether it was to be one for us or denying them the one they got, it was just one goal on that night.

That was part of it. But in itself not the end of the world. We would still have gone through after that had we gone to Napoli and not lost. We went there thinking we would stuff them and our defence was dire that day. A clean sheet there and we were through.

Then of course there's the Tevez at Bayern situation. What if he had come on? He effectively guaranteed our losing that game as we had taken Edin off already. We would probably have lost anyway but who knows.

The bottom line is you can make mistakes and go through. But you cannot fuck up left right and centre and still get away with it.

Our loss to BM can be excused on the basis that BM as a team was superior. All our players were outplayed in every department.

I agree that the whole team were at fault.

But it was more the performance than the quality of our team per se. For the most part we have looked a shadow of our normal best in the CL games. Whether it has been nerves or what, I don't know. But other than Villareal away and to a lesser extent last night, we have not been at the races at all.

We were unlucky to get Napoli from Pot 4...

...resulting in first group in entire history of CL to feature teams from 4 strongest leagues: PL / La Liga / Bundesliga / Serie A.

Need to progress in europa league to help with seeding next time round.

didn't deserve to qualify as 2 teams in our group were better than us, end of story. This 10 point stat is a load of utter bollocks and irrelevant. Mancini shouldn't be bringing up crap like this, it makes his look like Steve Kean. We needed an injury time winner in 1 game, then Villarreal had more reserves that first choice in the reverse match, then we beat a massively understrength and less motivated Bayern side. Away to Villarreal's near reserves and probably last night were the only convincing performances.

The campaign was a failure and a disappointent, no excuses.
