10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

Plays the game like its too easy

No idea what his ceiling is, I genuinely think it's up to him

Will be a starter for France at the world cup

I said when he signed that we are going to hold this lad in the same regard as Ali B and Kinky and fuck me I stand by it a million percent. Hes going to have quiet games and the dickheads will pop out of their holes to slag him off, but fucking hell the lad is electric. I cant wait to see him light up the prem.
Bernabia was fantastic such a clever player . He was past his prime but a joy to watch . This lad is nowhere near his prime and I can’t wait to see him develop into an all time great . (fingers crossed )

Spot on. Love the way he hardly looked at the ball. Reminded me of the start of my love in with City players when Kenny Clements managed to keep one of his crosses on the pitch in the early 70s.
Ashamed to admit I don't know who that is!

But Cherki is going to be a superstar. Don't be surprised to see a spike in City shirts next time you visit France or Algiers.

Tbf...you're right this was @Miško appraisal of him when at Lyon and seemed accurate based on the small sample size which was his debut for City.

Not the best strength wise with his back to goal holding off players & needs to work on. Did think he got hung out to dry a bit where his positioning seemed a bit lost. However, when he did receive the ball felt like he was trying too hard with the tricks & flicks which didn't come off. Mainly because & credit once again to our Lyon fan on here needing to be on the same wavelength as his team mates & vice-versa.

If his strength isn't holding off players & receiving the ball with his back towards them, we probably need to utilise his skill set where he receives the ball to feet facing towards goal & trying to pick out a pass KDB style which is where I think he may excel.
I didn't watch the games but by looking at the reels, it seems it was a very Cherkiesque performance for the first game. At the end of the game, you get very mixed feelings, under the impression he's been a tad bit languid on the pitch and that his contribution is pretty neutral. And then you look at stats and highlights and see he actually created a hell lot of danger out of nothing most of the time. If his partners played it a tad bit better, he would have been the player of the match. But they didn't and you end up thinking he was just 'meh'.

But I do think it'd be easier for him to play out wide at first, it suits better his intrinsic skillset.

He needs to be starting.

He is the only player in this team who looked like he wanted to play and seems to have that same killer mentality that KDB had.
Absolutely. He gives the ball away cheaply more often than I’m comfortable with but figure he’ll feel like he doesn’t need to impress and make something happen every time he has it at his feet.

Will probably need to tighten up his game a little bit. However, 2 wonder balls tonight. One that lead to a goal and the other would have done if Marmoush had a decent first touch. A player like him will always give the ball away at times. Just like KDB did a lot.

^ also came on at a time he has to force things and there’s little movement elsewhere due to tiredness. So those kind of things are more likely to happen.

But the main thing is - to have his quality and not play any of the opening 90 minutes is unacceptable really. Eyewateringly bad game management, that is reminiscent of Southgate.

What a talent but I’m afraid he won’t be starting games as pep is to concerned with control and retaining the ball,he’ll see Cherki as giving it away too much to take the risk of putting him in from the start..

As I texted to my brother during the game, “He’s got some lovely touches, but his gloves only come off about 30% of the time and we are always exposed defending the counter!

He’s one of “those” players who feels like a luxury you can’t afford NOT to have on the field.

Makes it all look easy, and should create goals for fun, but he’s going to have to be prepared to win back the balls he loses or he’ll be watching the game from a comfy seat.

That cross for Foden's goal was reminiscent of KDB at his very best ........ why it took so long to get him on the pitch in the first place, well only Pep knows?

He is class but pep is never going to play him, no idea why we bought him he is an anti pep player....he will become that player we cry out for game after game that pep doesnt start and gives 5 mins to at the end just watch
