I think what you are currently seeing with Cherki, and actually Reijnders as well, is the huge difference between the standard of the Premier League and the leagues in France and Italy respectively. You just don’t come up against a midfield three as good and as physical as Newcastle’s in France, and Cherki is struggling a bit with the pace of it presently. One thing about the elevated view at SJP looking down the pitch, is that you can see perfectly the tactics being applied, and Newcastle jumped all over Cherki the moment he got the ball. He needs to get used to it, and I think he will, the quality is certainly there, but it is a big step up.
