10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

That assist looked brilliant, and it was, but the danger is that because it came off once he'll be wasting many good opportunities by trying similar high risk tricks in search of the spectacular which will rarely come off.
I'm with Pep on this.
But that wasn’t high-risk for Cherki. He can play a rabona cross like that with his eyes closed

He's brilliant, and Pep is astute enough to know when to praise and when to push. It is very clear that he has a high opinion of him or he wouldn't have started, nor have been repeatedly praised this season.
Relationships are day in and day out, and a player so sure of their talent, as Rayan surely is, is not derailed by a coach telling them how to improve. He will be living and breathing it every single day in training.

We have some journey ahead of us.

Davide Silva 9 G&A
KDB 10 G&A
Rayan Cherki 9 G&A for us since the summer 32 24/25 season could have had another 2-3 easy yesterday his birthday is August so another 8 months to add to the 9
hopefully another statue in 10 years

Not being funny mate but have you seen some of our other players cross the ball haha there's no risk to anyone with some of them floaters

I want to see him do that dribble more, I think that's what Pep is trying to do by bringing Messi into it, at Lyon some of the players said when he concentrates on the basics he's unplayable. Both footed that dribble in Sunderlands box to get the ball to Haaland was Messi esque. Cherki has the ability to control a game and produce magic.

There was comment from one of the Lyon youth coaches that Cherki is the biggest Talent in France right now this was when Mbappe was taking headlines, but the coach said that Cherki doesn't realise how good he is. The tricks are entertaining but his close control and dribbling he can get past any one.

FFS. Don't shackle the lad! He ran the show today
Wait until he tries something adaciuous and it results in a goal against us, Pep is right to keep a lid on it otherwise you can see that he will try the hard thing rather than a 'simple' pass that is on, which he did a couple of times today.
He's good don't get me wrong and he could be incredible, time will tell.

Some of you have been hoodwinked once again by the rag top media.

Nothing wrong at all with what Pep said.
He was comparing him to Messi.
The same press who praised Ferguson, for decades, on how he managed young players by keeping them in check - it is a great hypocrisy, but it is the age we are in.

If Pep is including you in Messi sentences, you can be certain that he thinks of you in the absolutely highest regard.

But that's just it, shouldn't we wait until that happens to have a go at him? He's not done it so far, so who's to say it'll happen?

Some players aren't robots.

I know Pep is trying to keep Cherki's feet on the ground with those comments, but I think for someone as skillful as Cherki is (and being essentially two footed), that cross was simply the most efficient way to get the ball onto Fodens head, once he'd made the space cutting back.

Can't wait to see him starting regularly and becoming a key player for us
