Eleven children injured in Blyth park dog attack

Eleven children have been injured in a dog attack in a play park.

The animal, believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier, was restrained by a parent after biting the children at the park in Blyth, Northumberland.

They suffered bite wounds as they remained trapped in the fenced-off play park, at about 18:30 BST on Wednesday.

Nine were taken to hospital and treated for bite injuries, with a seven-year-old girl expected to need skin grafts.

The father of one of the injured children managed to tie the dog to a fence with a cardigan, before police transported it to kennels.

Adam Mulvey, who lives next to the park, said: "I got a knock on the door from a little girl telling us that there were several children trapped in the park with the dog, and one of them was my little girl.

"I could see her from the house and everyone else screaming, howling, it was just horrific."
I
Mr Mulvey said he ran outside, saw the dog and sat on it, before tying it to the fence.

"I'm a dog lover and it killed me to sit on it and hold its face to the ground. But it was a powerful dog - not a nice thing to happen," he said.

"My daughter's seven and she's got to have an operation now. They're looking at the possibility of having to have skin grafts.

"She's frightened of dogs now for the rest of her life and frightened of parks."

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said officers were working to find the animal's owner, and remaining in the area to reassure people.

Shocking that these types of bastard evil dogs can be kept as so called pets.Hope this one is put down.

Staffordshire bull terriers are not bastard evil dogs. Not by a long shot.

Awful story though and hope all the kids recover.

One of these types of dog ran into my house once, and attacked my mini-schnauzer. It gripper her by the neck and was ragging her. The vet told us the injury was very close to a main artery and she was lucky to be alive. I couldn't get the dog to release it's grip until I knelt on it's neck and gradually prized it's mouth open. Once we had isolated the dog into our closed porch, it was as meek and submissive as anything.

The owner - a wheelchair bound single lady - got the dog recently from Cheshire Dogs Home. Because she could not exercise it, she just let it out onto the street. The police made her pay our vet's bill of £90 through restorative justice. She made one payment of £8 and that was it.

Due to how the dog was afterwards, I am inclined to blame owners for these incidents. These dogs definitely should be kept under close supervision.

Interesting that the dogs home sold it to her in the first place.

A shocking story EP and both you and your dog were extremely fortunate IMO.However we have also heard of stories where these types of dogs have attacked owners and their families within the homes.
As a dog owner and lover myself I have no idea as to what pet lovers see in this type of dog, except that some owners like to be seen with them as a kind of status symbol. They say that most dogs look like their owners.Poor fucking dogs who look like a skin headed, tatoo, out of work, drug pusher, lager lout. And that`s just the women. ;)

Your more likely to be attacked or bit by a jack russel than a pit bull. The owners are the fault not the dogs.

I have yet to see an article about a retriever,a pug,a labrador,a poodle,a larso apso,a dalmatian and the likes being in the news for these sort of attacks.Different story with this type of dog yet again.
It's an emotional issue so I'm out. Suffice to say I think tarring all of this breed with the same brush is a load of bollocks.
