Everyone wants a maverick player like cherki. We've got one in doku too! Don't understand how people don't like him, by far our most entertaining player last season. Obviously end product could be better but that's not what it's all about and also his end product is better than people make out!

That post is absolute nonsense because you clearly don’t rate him. Struggle to see many better performances from a winger. Skinning people for fun as usual but picked out some really good passes (should have had an assist) and scored. What more do you want from a winger in a single game?
They want him to be the next Neymar and go 20/20 dribbles while assisting one and scoring one.
I can see why football turned robotic. I am sure he will be far better in terms of output next season with actual creative outlets and runners and a FULLBACK behind him

Oh come on - against Wales and on for 20 minute cameos against tired legs? He's dazzling!!
He's currently nowhere near "world class" imho.

Behind Ricky Holden.

How do people watch him and say he doesn't create enough or contribute to the offense or in the most basic terms, significantly increases the probability for his team to score, is truly beyond me. There is so much about his game that boxscore stats don't capture.

Hopefully Doku can learn a few thing from Cherki.

atm our best winger but he has to improve his shooting technique & left foot by a lot...the end product comes with experience

Doku is not unproductive. See his goal involvements per 90 minutes: stats are decent.

Those who are very critical of him think they know his ceiling: roughly, as good as he is at beating defenders he is unproductive full stop. They don't think he can get much better.

The truth is, nobody knows the future. Doku might remain the same for the next 4-5 years or explode and become a world beater, one who can decide games on his own (like his assist vs. Villa).

Anyone who thinks he knows the future can share his predictions about Rodri 4-5 years ago. Did they see him being the best in the world? Did they fuck.

Think Doku will really benefit from the Cherki and Rejnders transfers. Cherki should be able to find the pass quicker than we have been which will mean he wont have to beat so many players first, Rejnders he will benefit from more significantly due to his late arrival in to the box. As poor as Doku's final ball can be, there is never a lot to aim at so extra body's in there will will massively improve his numbers.

Don't think Doku has been anywhere near as bad as some make out. Looking forward to seeing him in a more functional attacking system.

He's never been outright bad but considering the amount of times he roasts his full back you just expect a better ratio of final balls to reach a City man but as you say the lack of options in and around the box hasn't helped. Maybe he will have more success next season if he can work with Ait-Nouri on the left to use him as a decoy to make better decisions with that final ball. With Cherki and Reijnders in the mix as well we are already shaping up nicely to be a lot more inventive going forward next season.

He’s a deeply flawed player that can do something on the pitch better than anybody else I’ve ever seen, taking a man on from a standing start and beating them 9 times out of 10 - but that doesn’t make him world class, he can barely do anything else right.

I’d keep him for as long as we can on his current wages just in the hope that he irons out his flaws, learns to pick out a man from a cross or curl it in the bottom corner.

Other issue is that I don’t think he’s capable of playing every 3 days with his muscle injuries.

I’d argue Kyle Walker was a deeply flawed player that could do something on the pitch better than anybody else I’ve ever seen, too

Sterling arguably could fit that description. Ederson? Haaland, in some people’s estimations

Really just depends how valuable that “one thing” is, and how well it fits into the team dynamic

Wrong thread apologies, but does Cherki remind anyone of Eden Hazard? Just been watching some vids on YouTube, can’t wait to see him play properly.

I like Doku and get peoples frustrations with the final pass/cross. But as the only bit of outright pace and trickery he’s almost always double marked. Let’s see teams try this routine tactic with the new faces we’ve brought in! Suspect a low block will become an even lower block in many matches. Mouthwatering prospect if Pep gets it all to click.
