11 | Jeremy Doku - 2024/25

Doku has had a great start to his career with us. Like every, single player, he has good points and areas to develop.

Every season, some people lack objectivity with certain players and condemn them. They focus on bad games, and rarely mention good ones. They concentrate on what a player cannot do, rather than what they bring to the team.

We cannot keep winning titles with so many flawed players - it just would not happen - so celebrate these gifted young players who have managed to grab a first team place at the best club in world football; there is a reason they are in the team even if they have further to go.

Not sure which Doku you have been watching, but I'm fairly certain he doesn't get in 10+ chances a game.

The other difference, is that in your scenario, he gives the ball away 50% of the time, where as the other person only gives it away 20% of the time.

I know which one Pep would prefer in the long term if he carries on at that rate.
Stalls have been set out. High horses mounted.

Agree with this. Doku has huge potential and should improve with great coaching. The time to judge will be in 12 months time. At present he plays in moments and needs to improve.

I've been bored and went back to watch Doku. While I am slightly annoyed that he hasn't taken a big leap forward, he's been pretty good for the most part. I feel output-wise he's been unlucky.

Rico hitting the post against Ipswich, Kevin hitting the post against West Ham, Gundo missing the header against Inter, Doku hitting the post on Tuesday. That's 4 g+a that were simple that could've happened.

Against teams that will be willing to play, he will have moments of being dominant. He won't be consistent but he will flash. Against teams with low blocks, he will need to improve.

He's similar to Erling (except Erling is generational) in that he's off rhythm compared to his teammates and would probably fit better in a more transitional team but that's neither here nor there.

As an FOC, I remember a term that applies to Doku that I don’t hear much anymore:

He needs to get his head up.

He certainly has the beating of most full backs, at least a good percentage of the time, but it’s after that where everyone seems to think he falls short.

If he just got his head up and could pick out a man, it would help. He did it for Foden’s goal, but he had a decent amount of time. However, under pressure, on the run, I feel like he’s a bit of a “hit and hope” winger, and it’s simply not coming off…at the moment.

There’s definitely a player in there and the lad seems willing, but as he’s transitioned to the elite level if the game, so his composure and distribution need to elevate themselves for him to cement his position.

A man cannot live on a stutter step alone!

A bit like Jesus Navas in that sense.

I guess what you're trying to say, is that if he was a better footballer, then he'd be a better footballer?

If that's what you're implying, then I have to agree.

Jack and Doku are complete opposites. Jack is a 4-5/10 in dribbling and getting to dangerous positions with the ball and a 8-9/10 in decision making (only because his shooting skills are non-existant). Doku is a 10/10 in dribbling and getting to dangerous positions and a 2-3/10 in decision making.

The thing is, decision making is improved via more experience and game time (as long as the player wants to improve and learn). If Doku doesn't improve that by the end of the season, I would start to become worried, but right now, Doku can be world-class if he improves those aspects (a big if).
