11 | Jeremy Doku - 2025/26

I would say he was largely not good, was exposed centrally holding on to the ball when he really should release it in tight spaces. ended up passing it awry a few times as well. I also don't like that he often just chooses to barrel through defenders on counter attacks hoping to get a favourable bounce instead of using his pace or trickery, it has screwed over a few of our counter attacks this season.

Nevertheless, ended up creating quite a few chances, getting 2 assists (if you consider the own goal an assist) and also created the foden goal, so i much rather a doku with numbers that doesn't play well than a doku without numbers that plays well.

I'd expect any winger to create chances, I don't think he creates enough, 2 or 3 a game mostly. I get that he excites people, he does me sometimes, as I said he looked world class v liverpool, but generally he flatters to decieve. It's not just about creating chances, he rarely scores any, and most decent winger chips in with goals.

This season - 19 games, 3 goals, 4 assists, it's not enough for me.

I'd just add, he wasn't a winger yesterday as he spent a lot of time playing as an 8 or 10, what is his role ?
Whatever your expectations are, you must recognize they are a bit irrational. He is in the top 2% of chance creation. There simply aren't many creating more often than he does.

He may be clunky or unorthodox. But he is creating a lot. And lately, he has figured out that defenders back off against him and often give him space to thread a diagonal ball.

Foden's miss at Newcastle and his goal for the fourth against Fulham are examples of that. And he does it consistently now. A lot of early releases that weren't a part of his game last.
year.

He is one of our 4 World Class players this season. Erling, Phil , Donna and Doku. They all have their flaws, but that's the World Class quartet right now.

Centrally he’s been largely superb. The other night he was very frustrating at times. Largely due to trying to dribble deep in his own half. That needs to stop. He’s got the strength to just hold players off and release it in those areas. Him trying it so far back will be a negative more often than not as he can’t sprint 70 yards if he beats them and if he is disposed we’re in the shit.

Was still highly effective on an off night though with a big involvement in 3 of our goals. The very least of our problems. Keep going Jezza!

Good luck.

Was world class against liverpool, been shite ever since.

What annoys me is the trademark run at two defenders, try to get between them, and fall over, oh and run past one, then turn round and play it backwards.

The word frustrating was invented just for him.
Ridiculous post, hes been one of our best players for weeks.

He just doesn’t like him mate so his views on him aren’t rational. He’s basically slagging his dribbling off when he’s by far our most direct player and one of best one v one players we’ve had. Could slag him off for not producing enough key moments for goals. Now he’s doing that he’s on about his dribbling when against 2 players! Hilarious that he’s criticising that if against 2 he ends up keeping the ball by playing it back or inside. Christ knows what he must have made of Jack then!

@Lavinda Past don't know if you are on twitter but i see a lot of these stats that have doku very high up in the rankings. i dont feel like he is just a dribble merchant anymore and actually contributes to creating for haaland

I have been watching football for over 60 years and the garbled nonsense in that Twitter post is littered with meaningless drivel, just because someone expresses a willingness to dress shit up in hundreds and thousands it doesn't mean it's factual, relevant or information of any kind.

No, I don't do twitter Thomas. As Mexico 1970 suggests in his response, dresed up stats don't mean very much in the great scheme of things.

Doku is having a good spell but, as I say, he's still very young and has a lot to learn. I certainly don't think he's proved himself at this level (yet), and he tends to 'go missing' for long periods of the game.

That said, he's certainly got more potential than Savinho, who imo isn't good enough for top level football.

that's fair enough and wow 60 years can't argue with that got a lot more knowledge than myself

yeah i understand that. i personally at the start of the season thought savinho was gonna be the one who improved drastically this season, that was before the apparent move away. so i'm probably seeing doku upturn in performance from the perspective of not expecting much
