I don't think any world cup winner ever got it trough sheer luck, France didn't exactly meet the easiest teams in the tourney neither. We had arguably one of the best attacks of the tourney and yet we hardly could create chances versus France. France simply played a tourney where their quality didn't always show itself so much but they were efficient.
Yeah, lets hope that coincide's with a more positive attitude from the fans and media towards their national team.
I think in any tournament the winners will have had some luck which is illustrated by the fact that frequently the best team doesnt win it.
The media seem to have changed for now the attitude toward the England team and the public here other than it would seem Premier league supporters by and large fell in love with the national team this summer. How the FA and Southgate can keep that trend remains to be seen. Getting home matches away from Wembley will help as will playing attacking entertaining football something that by and large seems to have been beyond England managers.
