13 years ago tonight

That was one of many shite nights. Thing is, we went again and again, Lincoln 4-1 away was followed by Lincoln 1-0 at home - always told my lad that one day we'd be back - tho I never really believed it. Its just unbelievable where we are now.

Just read my match report from MCIVTA for this game. See link above if interested. So depressing. I'd forgotten Michael Branch use to play for us and I certainly didn't rate Goater in those days.

The team that day was

Weaver
Edghill Wiekens Morrison Vaughan
Mason Bishop Crooks Horlock
Goater Branch

How times have changed!

It was just a bad performance though, out of that team there are a number of players who started our resurrection, namely Weaver, Wiekens, Morrison, Horlock, and Goater. Many of the others eventually played a part too, the only ones I never took to were Vaughan, and Branch, never saw anything in those two.

Oh jeez was it that long ago (I also submitted a report to MCIVTA) <a class="postlink" href="http://mcivta.com/mcivta/4/49.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://mcivta.com/mcivta/4/49.html</a>. Went with the missus & yes the roads around the ground were crap. I think we played Luton the following Saturday & drew 1-1...all I can remember is Gary Mason being intimidated by one of the Luton defenders & Andy Morrison getting injured...in the rain.

One of those games 20000 will claim to have been at. I was also there with my brother and we took along a mate who is an Oxford fan, he found the prospect of City at Wycombe worth going to. Truly dreadful game and I remember cold dark , soulless and dreary, I think we parked in a b and q. We then spent half the game pissing ourselves at the stupidity of anyone having the name mcsporran only for him to have the last laugh. Can't believe it is 13 years and can't believe it ever happened. I do remember some humour in that it was just comically bad!

I wasnt at Lincoln thankfully, this was my city low point, my two best city mates in sydney reckon the lowpoint was Lincoln and the other Chesterfield. He swears at Chesterfield he had to stand next to a farmer still in his overalls and wellies and covered in shit.

Great thread for reminding people on here , who we are , where we came from and to appreciate wherever we may go. Humility is the key in all this.

Wycombe, an absolute nightmare. I didn't go but listened on the wireless and remember thinking we'll be in this division forever. When we played them at home I took my youngest son to his first game he was just over 2 and we got beat 2-1 with them completing the double over us, luckily that was our last defeat that season and we all know what happened next. Happily the lad wasn't scarred by the Wycombe loss and is 15 now and City mad and a season ticket holder for many years.

Anyone at the 3 0 defeat 7 months earlier at Elm Park! Absolutely dreadful stood on the terraces and a group of blues near us stood with their back to the game. The guy I went with was a barrister and went to the game with his cape (is that the technical term) in his hand and the shiniest black polished shoes. Later at Reading station the actor who used to play Billy Boswell and an actress who used to be in Eastenders, the barrister and me (bizarre combo) contemplated the very likely reality of div 2 football. Never saw any of the three of them ever again! Beardsley played for us that day and badly!

They were so negative that night that when they kicked off they passed it back to the keeper.

I love the old stories & I'll never forget supporting City through those dark times. Especially when many of my mates were enjoying the kind of success we are now...

I didnt go to any of the away games that season, but I went to most of the home games & the playoff final. I remember City at home to Northampton Town- 0-0. I remember walking away from Maine Road trying to replay the game in my mind, but nothing happened. It was one of the most pathetic games I've watched.

The only thing I could remember from the game was that they had a corner infront of the Platt Lane end & their striker tried to jump up & Big Andy Morrison gripped him so he couldnt move. You're going nowhere son. That was the only highlight.....those were the days...
