I'm sorry but Dias Stones is our best pairing. And it's not close.

I know there is a general love for Laporte here, I get it. But nothing he has produced in the past is better than what we saw from either Dias or John this season.

So I don't get this notion that he's our best defender. He isn't. Dias and Stones have been better this season. And the form they showed this season (especially in that middle run) is higher than anything Eric has shown at any point at City.

Eric is a top defender, but he is comfortably 3rd best. That's not even an argument worth having. The 2 ahead of him have been clearly superior.

He should play more. Agreed. But he wasn't as good as either Dias or John this season.
 
I’m amazed that people are saying that the partnership should be Laporte and Dias after the season we’ve just seen with Stones at the back. Amazed.

Dias has brought in an attitude of putting his body in the way of everything and it’s transferred to the rest of the team (remember Zinch/Stones celebrating a block vs Neymar?) and they’ve bought into it.

Then Chelsea at home in the league. Their equaliser from Ziyech. He takes a shot from the edge of the area and Laporte turns his back on it and instead of making himself bigger to block, he somehow made himself smaller.

And that’s why he’s not been starting and won’t take over from Dias or Stones unless he adopts that into his locker. He has everything else and is class but rarely throws his body in the way which is what Pep has alluded to this season and a main reason why we’ve done so well defensively.
 
Barca want him look at their current cb's lol, but the question is are they gonna offer 20 mil plus sergi roberto in which case get out. Will be livid if Laporte goes but even more so if he goes fore less than value.
 
Getting rid of Laporte will be a massive mistake..yes, Stones had a good season,pleased for him but look at who has been the most reliable over the last 2/3 years..I am happy for Stones, but have said many times, wait until he plays in front of a crowd in a high pressure match..Holland and Poland matches confirm a degree of mental weakness.
If Laporte goes, it is because he wants to go,but when fit, he is much better than Stones.

Not according to the facts on tape. Your assumptions about Stones fragilities are just that, assumptions.

Here's what's factual... Stones at his best (which was most of this season and a 2 month period 2 seasons ago) is better than Laporte"s best. That's just fact.

But I agree. I hope we keep Laporte. We were lucky with injuries at the CB position this season. Especially to the 2 best CBs ( by that I mean Dias and Stones). We may not be so lucky next season. So having Laporte as a 3rd superbly capable CB is key.

Not to mention, Stones has sometimes struggle to find his form AFTER injury. So best to have a 3rd CB almost as good, to take over if either or even Dias lose form. Which is quite possible.


All that said, on the totality of evidence, Stones and Dias are better CB than Laporte. All 3 are great. And I hope they are all here next season
 
Had a decent game today with Spain. I won’t be surprised if he starts in the Euros.
